CEO Talks Jeep Plans, ’17 Aluminum Wrangler, ’18 Grand Wagoneer?

The life cycle chart for Jeep models during the four year plan out through 2018.

This morning, Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat S.p.A. and Chairman and CEO of Chrysler Group LLC, along with his leadership team explained the plan for business before an audience that included leaders of the financial community, investors, automobile dealers, parts suppliers, labor representatives and many members of the media. The meeting took place at Chrysler’s U.S. headquarters in Auburn, Michigan.

It will be modernized, but how much would you like to see a revival of the full-size Jeep Grand Wagoneer seen above?

First of all, the company is confident that the utility vehicle industry is going to be huge through 2018, and the Jeep brand is what its going to use to make more money, after all that’s what saved its neck these last few years, so why change course now. The company’s financial forecasts put the most importance on “B” segment SUVs, which it expects to grow by 13 percent. That’s where the 2014 Jeep Renegade comes in.

What we found out through various sources is that during the meeting the new Renegade will be its big push in small SUVs for the next five years. There will likely be an all-new replacement for the Compass and Patriot in 2016, and redesigns of the Wrangler (including the possibility of an aluminum body) and Grand Cherokee in 2017. But the really big news, and hold on to your hats for this one, a full-size SUV carrying the Grand Wagoneer badge is likely to come in 2018.

Jeeps growth of 117 percent from 2009 through 2013 has it on track to make its 2014 sales goals of a million SUVs. And it’s said the company is going to crank production up to 1.9 million by 2018 with all the factories in the USA and abroad. The Jeep division predicts that this and the growth in worldwide dealerships will help drive its brand sales up 20 percent by 2018 and return the Jeep nameplate to “Number 1 SUV Brand In The World” status.

The all-aluminum bodied Jeep “Stitch” concept could be close to what a 2017 Wrangler might look like.

Would you buy an all-aluminum bodied Wrangler? Would you be interested in buying a full-size Jeep Wagoneer? What engine options do you think it will likely be offered with? Since currently the Wrangler is offered with the 3.6L V6, Grand Cherokee is available with the 3.0L diesel, and Ram trucks are offered with a 5.7L HEMI V8, what would you think if the new Grand Wagoneer could be ordered be any of those three engine options? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
