In a storybook turnaround from last year’s heartbreak, Optima Batteries athlete Christopher Polvoorde and off-road legend Bryce Menzies surged to victory at the BFGoodrich Tires 58th SCORE Baja 1000, securing both the SCORE Trophy Truck title and the overall race win after nearly 16 hours of racing across the Baja California Peninsula.

The #94 Ford Raptor Mason AWD Trophy Truck executed one of the cleanest runs among the 229 teams that took the green flag on Ensenada’s iconic Boulevard Costero. Only 131 teams would ultimately finish—just 75 percent—in the fourth and final round of the 2025 SCORE World Desert Championship.

Redemption After 2024 Misfortune

Polvoorde and Menzies entered the 2024 Baja 1000 as heavy favorites—until a power steering failure forced their early exit. That setback fueled Polvoorde’s year-long preparation for the 2025 event.

“Last year was tough,” Polvoorde admitted. “But I think we channeled some of that disappointment into coming back much stronger this year. The truck felt great, and I just focused on giving Menzies the biggest lead I possibly could, and it paid off.”

And it did. Polvoorde dominated the first half of the nearly 1,000-mile race, building a commanding lead before handing off the truck to Menzies just after sunset.

A Wild SCORE Baja 1000 Finish For The Ages

Menzies—already a 12-time SCORE Trophy Truck race winner—took the wheel aiming to secure his second Baja 1000 overall victory, having previously won in 2023 alongside Andy McMillin and Gustavo “Tavo” Vildosola Jr.

Menzies quickly settled into race pace, stretching the team’s lead before swapping positions with Toby Price in the final 100-mile sprint. The battle tightened dramatically, and with just miles to go, Price slipped into first.

Victory seemed to be fading—until a dramatic twist: Price ran out of fuel, allowing Menzies to reclaim the lead in the final stretch and cement Polvoorde and Menzies as the 2025 SCORE Baja 1000 champions.

Crossing The Line And Making History

Polvoorde, 25, from Heber City, Utah, captured his first Baja 1000 victory in spectacular fashion. Menzies, 38, of Las Vegas, notched his 12th SCORE Trophy Truck win and a triumphant return to peak form after missing the mid-season 500.

The pair crossed the Ensenada finish line after 15 hours, 48 minutes, and 24 seconds of nonstop driving—capping off a season remembered for incredible moments across Baja’s deserts, mountains, and beaches. For the tenth consecutive year, every SCORE event took place in Mexico.

Global Competition On The Grandest Stage

The 58th SCORE Baja 1000 drew teams from across the world, including 36 U.S. states and 20 countries, covering North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. Competitors came from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, England, Finland, France, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Poland, and Switzerland.

Celebrating its 50th edition with an official start in Ensenada, the legendary race once again proved why it’s known as the “Granddaddy of All Desert Races.” Ensenada has now served as the host city for the finish line 31 times, underscoring its place in off-road racing history.
