General Motors knows where its bread is buttered, and its full-size trucks have been padding profit margins for decades now. GM knows that in order to keep truck buyers interested and invested in its products, regular updates are mandatory, and GMAuthority reports for the 2017 model year the Chevy Silverado 1500 is being upgraded with some new convenience features, a revised color palette, and an improved High Country package.
Chief among these improvements is the availability of Android Auto, Google’s in-car infotainment system that syncs up with Android-powered phones and gives drivers access to their phonebook, text messaging, and numerous apps. A rearview camera is now a standard feature on the LT trim, and all Silverado models now come with a capless fuel filler (save for those trucks ordered with a bed delete).
On the 1LT trim, new P265/65R18 off-road tires are offered as an option, and the High Country package adds the  Enhanced Driver Alert Package, IntelliBeam headlights, power adjustable pedals and a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel. The 2017 Silverado also adds a teen driving mode and low speed mitigation braking as a part of the Enhanced Driver Alert Package.
Rounding out the changes for the 2017 Silverado are two new color options, Pepperdust Metallic and Graphite Metallic. These colors replace Slate Grey Metallic, Tungsten Metallic and Autumn Bronze Metallic on the Silverado’s color palette. All told, these relatively minor changes add some much-needed convenience options to the Silverado, making it a much more well-rounded entry into the highly competitive light-duty truck market.
Those hoping for greater availability of the 8-speed automatic transmission, or maybe even a small diesel engine may be disappointed. But that just means there’s something to look forward to next year.
