Chevrolet has pulled the wraps off the next-generation 2027 Silverado 1500, and the message is clear: V8 power, advanced technology, and serious off-road capability remain at the heart of Chevy’s full-size truck lineup. With an all-new design, next-generation V8 engines, a fully digital interior, and three lifted off-road-focused trims, Chevrolet is positioning the new Silverado as the most powerful and advanced half-ton truck it has ever built.

Expected to arrive in dealerships later this year, the redesigned Silverado continues to offer four powertrain options, including two next-generation V8 engines, an upgraded 2.7-liter TurboMax paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the segment-exclusive Duramax 3.0-liter diesel.

“Silverado has earned truck customers’ trust over decades of hard work in the real world,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Global Chevrolet. “With the Next-Generation 2027 Silverado 1500, we’re taking that legacy forward by building the most capable, refined and advanced Silverado lineup we’ve ever offered.”

Three Lifted Models Lead The Charge

Chevrolet has streamlined the Silverado lineup into seven trims for 2027: Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, Silverado (formerly LT), Trail Boss, ZR2, and High Country. Most notable is Chevrolet’s commitment to offering three lifted models, reflecting growing demand for factory-equipped off-road trucks.

The lineup is now anchored by what Chevrolet calls its most off-road-capable ZR2 ever, joined by the Trail Boss and Custom Trail Boss as more attainable off-road alternatives.

Next-Generation V8 Power

While much of the industry continues shifting toward downsized and electrified powertrains, Chevrolet is doubling down on V8 performance.

The 2027 Silverado introduces next-generation 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter V8 engines, which Chevrolet says deliver improvements in both horsepower and torque while maintaining the durability truck owners expect. The company also claims the Silverado now offers the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class.

The engines will be assembled at GM’s Flint Engine Operations, Tonawanda Propulsion, and St. Catharines Propulsion facilities.

“We pushed these engines through an extensive testing and validation process to make sure they deliver the durability, capability and dependability Silverado customers expect,” said Mark Dickens, executive chief engineer. “From tough towing scenarios to the daily demands our customers put on their trucks, these next-generation V8s were engineered and proven to perform in the real world.”

Bolder Styling, Stronger Presence

The Silverado receives an all-new exterior design for 2027, featuring a more aggressive front fascia, distinctive LED lighting signatures, more pronounced wheel opening moldings, and revised rocker treatments. Custom models and above now come standard with dual exhaust outlets, adding a more refined appearance.

According to Chevrolet Global Executive Design Director Phil Zak, the goal was to create a truck that looks stronger and more modern without abandoning the authentic truck character Silverado buyers expect.

“The goal with the new Silverado was to create a truck that looks stronger, more modern with demanding presence at first glance, while staying true to the authentic truck character customers expect from Chevrolet,” Zak said.

A Fully Digital Interior

Inside, every 2027 Silverado receives a dramatic technology upgrade. A class-leading 16.3-inch center touchscreen and 12.2-inch driver information display are standard across the entire lineup. ZR2 and High Country models add a class-leading 11.5-inch passenger-side display, creating more than 60 inches of combined digital screen space when paired with the available head-up display and rear camera mirror.

Additional available features include dual wireless charging pads, a reconfigurable Multi-Flex center console, and Super Cruise hands-free driving technology with trailering capability—a feature Chevrolet says remains unique within the segment.

The Most Off-Road-Capable ZR2 Ever

Chevrolet has pushed its factory off-road flagship further than ever before with a combination of larger tires, upgraded suspension components, and enhanced trail-focused equipment. Standard features include 35-inch mud-terrain tires, a 2-inch lift, front and rear electronic locking differentials, and Multimatic DSSV dampers with jounce control technology.

Chevrolet says the desert-racing-proven suspension package is designed to keep the truck composed across high-speed desert terrain, rocky trails, and everyday pavement alike.

Inside, the ZR2 receives Torch Red accents, red-edged seatbelts, dual wireless charging, and what Chevrolet says is the first-ever use of genuine forged carbon-fiber trim in a ZR2 model and GM’s first application of forged carbon décor.

ZR2 Bison Returns

The available ZR2 Bison, developed in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), builds on the standard truck’s capability with a suite of overlanding-focused upgrades. Highlights include AEV front and rear bumpers, rocker protection, 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels, and skid plates protecting the front underbody, transfer case, rear differential, and fuel tank.

Additional details such as AEV badging and all-weather floor liners further emphasize the truck’s purpose-built nature.

Trail Boss Delivers Factory Lifted Capability

For buyers who want off-road style and capability without stepping up to the ZR2, the 2027 Trail Boss continues to fill that role.

The truck features a factory 2-inch lift, 34-inch mud-terrain tires, and a dedicated off-road hood that gives it a noticeably more aggressive stance. Inside, Trail Boss models receive unique interior treatments, including Torch Red-edged seatbelts and seats with distinctive perforation patterns and fabric inserts.

Meanwhile, the Custom Trail Boss continues as Chevrolet’s entry point into factory-lifted Silverado ownership, combining a 2-inch lift with 34-inch tires and a more attainable price point.

High Country Raises The Luxury Bar

At the opposite end of the spectrum, the flagship High Country aims to blend premium luxury with full-size truck capability. New 22-inch After Midnight machine-faced wheels, a redesigned High Country badge, darker trim elements, and an exclusive Tritan Satin grille create a more sophisticated appearance.

Inside, High Country introduces Silverado’s first panoramic sunroof and offers both light and dark interior themes. Real wood trim, microfiber suede materials, Natural Tan-edged seatbelts, Tritan Satin accents, and a unique Multi-Flex center console help establish High Country as the most upscale Silverado ever.

More Capability Across the Lineup

The newly named Silverado trim replaces the former LT and, when equipped with four-wheel drive, now includes the Z71 package as standard equipment. That means skid plates, hill descent control, and off-road suspension components become standard features rather than optional upgrades.

Custom models gain standard dual exhaust and 20-inch Technical Gray machine-faced wheels, while Work Truck models continue focusing on durability, fleet uptime, and commercial functionality.

Looking Ahead

With the 2027 Silverado, Chevrolet is clearly leaning into the strengths that built its truck reputation: V8 power, towing capability, rugged durability, and increasingly sophisticated technology. At the same time, the company is making a significant play for off-road buyers through a broader lifted-truck lineup and its most aggressive ZR2 package to date.

“Whether it’s a High Country customer looking for premium appointments, an off-road enthusiast choosing ZR2 or Trail Boss, or a small business owner counting on Work Trucks to get the job done, there is a 2027 Silverado 1500 built around their world,” Bell said. “Chevrolet is moving the Silverado story forward with the most powerful and advanced Silverado 1500 we have ever offered.”

Chevrolet says pricing and additional availability details will be announced later this year, with production scheduled at GM’s North American full-size truck assembly facilities.
