The annual Specialty Equipment Market Association SEMA Show is just a month away and to gear up, major manufacturers are pulling out all the stops bringing concept vehicles to mainstream media. For Chevrolet, that concept comes in the form of the 2014 Silverado Black Ops model-a concept truck designed to withstand anything that Mother Nature, or any other force, can throw at it. After all, according to Chevrolet News, we’re talking about a truck equipped with an in-bed vault, solar power pack, and a pair of gas masks.
When manufacturers release concept vehicles, more often than not, they’re aiming to showcase a brand new model, and the upgrades that can make the vehicle suitable for any lifestyle. Loud, proud and certainly suited for disaster mode, the Black Ops truck more than follow those lines.
Based on the 2014 Silverado Crew Cab 4×4 with a fully boxed hydroformed frame, the Black Ops model comes equipped with an all-knew EcoTec 5.3L engine, boasting 355hp and 383 lb-ft of torque while maintaining an EPA-estimated 23mpg on the highway. This engine is backed by a standard 6-speed transmission with hill descent control, revised and raised front and rear suspension systems, wider Z71 18-inch wheels and four-wheel disc brakes with Duralife rotors.
The truck also comes in concept form with StabiliTrak stability control with hill start assist and trailer sway control, as well as a two-fold safety system featuring a lane departure warning and a forward collision alert.
Molding the Black Ops concept into the life raft that it is, are a generator, water and fuel storage cans, a lockable bed-mounted Truck Vault storage unit, custom lower body armor, a CornerStep bumper, tailgate with EZ-Lift-and Lower feature, and even a front-mounted winch with light-emitting cover and built-in tow hooks.
Giving the Black Ops concept its unique look are custom bed rails, double-sided light bridge, Chevrolet Accessories’ bolt-on fender flairs, four-inch tubular assist steps, inlaid triple-sealed doors and custom painted wheels. The interior follows suit with custom yellow-piped black seats, yellow trim pieces, and a Chevy MyLink system with eight-inch color touch screen and navigation.
Whether you’re cleaning up after a natural disaster or battling through a zombie apocalypse, the Silverado Black Ops concept truck is sure to pack every punch you could ever need. Now we can only hope this concept turns into reality in the near future!
