The 2015 Colorado has been a big hit for GM and you’d think that newness would have “legs” for at least a model year. Not these days. Chevrolet wants to keep the buzz going and just announced an upgrade for its Z71 package called the Trail Boss. It also shines some light on GM’s recent trademark activity down at the US Patent office.
The package is an equal opportunity option and available with either the four-cylinder or V6 engine, extended-cab or crew-cab body style, and your choice of two available bed lengths.
While certainly no Raptor, the Trail Boss comes with locking rear differential, front tow hooks, 265/65 Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires on 17-inch aluminum wheels, black fender flares, and blacked-out bow-tie logos. The bed also gets a spray-on liner and a few parts from the GearOn accessory catalog, including the tie-down rings, load bar, and cargo divider.
Yeah, yeah, it’s not the Duramax diesel ZR2 we were hoping for but let’s face it, for most folks this package will be a nice combination of improved off-road prowess while retaining everyday drivability.
“The Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Trail Boss Edition is equally at home blazing an urban trail or following one to a favorite remote campground,” said Tony Johnson, Colorado marketing manager. “It gives owners the gear-carrying ability and versatility they need to venture off-road, with segment-leading efficiency and capability.” And there you go.
The Trail Boss goes on sale this spring with a starting price of $28,505 plus the package price of $3,320.
