Burbank PD Gets Off-Road Help From Yamaha OAI And Jay Leno

When off-roaders think of Yamaha and its Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative (OAI), they think of durability, capability, and trail-tested machines. Now, Yamaha’s commitment to responsible riding and training has found a new home in an unexpected place — the Burbank Police Department’s motorcycle training grounds — with a little help from legendary gearhead and comedian, Jay Leno.

Jay Leno Connects Yamaha with the Burbank PD

Jay Leno, a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast and Burbank native, heard the department’s motorcycle training unit was in need of a reliable support vehicle. Knowing Yamaha’s dedication to the powersports community, Leno stepped in and made the connection. The result? Yamaha donated a UMAX Rally 2+2 utility golf car through its Outdoor Access Initiative (OAI).

The presentation went down at none other than Jay Leno’s Garage, with the man himself on hand to help highlight the importance of the initiative.

“The Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative is an incredible program that helps keep off-road recreation sustainable and safe for future generations,” Leno said.

Built for the Job: Yamaha UMAX Rally 2+2

The UMAX Rally 2+2 isn’t your average golf cart. This 4-passenger utility vehicle brings serious off-road chops to the table, making it the perfect asset for supporting the Burbank PD’s demanding motorcycle training courses. Whether it’s setting up cone patterns, ferrying instructors, or hauling gear, this machine is ready to roll.

Rafael Quintero, Burbank’s Chief of Police, shared his gratitude:

“We’re extremely thankful for Yamaha’s generous support and commitment to rider safety. Whether it’s on the highway or on a trail, responsible riding starts with training and preparation, and we’re proud to set that example.”

Why This Matters to Off-Roaders

While Yamaha’s OAI is best known for funding trail access, maintenance, and habitat conservation, the initiative also recognizes the importance of rider education and safety. According to Yamaha Motorsports Marketing Director Steve Nessl:

“Access can be threatened by unsafe or irresponsible behavior. That’s why we’re proud to support the Burbank PD’s training efforts – it’s a win for the community and for rider education.”

Since its start in 2008, the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative has contributed more than $7 million to over 535 projects across the U.S., benefiting riders of all stripes, from OHV clubs to hunting groups, from forest trail builders to youth bicycle educators.

Keep It Wild, Keep It Open

If you ride, wheel, or explore on public land, the work Yamaha is doing through the OAI helps keep those trails open and accessible. It’s about supporting the right kind of riding — the kind that keeps our sport alive for future generations.
