Tech and contingency has passed and with less than 24 hours before the race it is time to go over the vehicle one last time. We were able to see everything that goes into this final and last step with Chinolas Motorsports.
Once the vehicle was finished at contingency they did one last prerun of the first 20 miles of the course before driving the buggy back to headquarters to begin race prep.
The team tore apart the side panels to go over the vehicle and make sure their were no leaks on any of the drivetrain. All the bolts got looked at as well to make sure nothing was coming loose.
One key part of the preparation was getting the new tires mounted and the best spares ready to go. To get the tires mounted we headed into town to find a tire shop willing to do the late night swap.
The team tried one shop that they normally use, but they were too backed up and would not take the job. They recommended another place, and upon arriving they were up for the task.
With the tires mounted it was back to headquarters to divide up the spare parts, tires, and fuel to each chase truck. Each chase vehicle was equipped with the required parts depending on the number and location of the pits that they are pitting at. They are also equipped with a race radio and some of them were outfitted with a MSAT satellite phone as well.
Everything was handed out and accounted for, it was time to get some shut eye before the start of the race in the morning. The Trophy Trucks would be the first ones off the line at 11:00 am PST, the Class 10 had an estimated starting line time of 12:07 pm.
There was one last addition to the vehicle before it was called a night. The team dawned the Off Road Xtreme logo on the vehicle. Continue to keep it locked on Off Road Xtreme for more updates from this year’s Baja 1000.
