Anticipation Builds For The 2015 Chevy S-10 Re-Introduction

2014S-10-4While many Asian as well as South and Central American markets have been selling the new down-sized General Motors pickup truck, according to a report in Autoweek, the company is looking to reintroduce the Colorado/Canyon to the U.S. in 2015. And while in countries such as Brazil, the truck still carries the S-10 name, we may may have to wait a couple of years. However, we can still get a little green with envy over what other folks get to drive.

Regular and crew cab options are available, the latter of which can be upgraded to handle off-road terrain with a 4×4 setup. But where the S-10 really shines is the noticeable ground clearance.

Sweet, sweet ground clearance.

In previous years, this was a major problem for the pickup, as it hung as low as 7.3 inches and made it ill-suited for tasks that required off-road driving. When the new Colorado appears sometime next fall, it will be interesting to see how the truck sits; too low, and it may be back to the drawing board for the 2015 model.

One area we may not covet so much is the engine department, which is covered by all of two options: the 2.4L FlexPower, making just under 140hp, and the 2.8L diesel making 177hp. These inline-four engines sound pretty underwhelming when it comes to the long haul, but they’ll make good on mileage.

If your envy has worn off a bit now, then this might kill it completely. The Brazilians–who happen to manufacture it–will pay roughly $29K for a 2.4L 4×2 Twin Cab, $32K for a base Crew Cab, and $41K for a 2.8L turbodiesel 4×2 Twin Cab.

Comparatively, the MSRP for a 2012 crew cab 3LT, which comes powered by the 5.3L V8, is about the same as that of the 2.4L 4×2 Twin Cab S-10. So it looks like those outside of the U.S. will be paying more for fewer features–sucks to be them!

Those outside the U.S. will pay about $32,000 for these crew cabs, and that's just with the 2.4L IL4. Ouch!

So maybe we’re getting the better end of the stick after all, even though we have to wait longer for our version to arrive. So, is it a good idea for GM to bring these trucks back to the U.S. market? Do you think they’ll find a foothold here in 2015? What do you think?
