A press release recently crossed our desk mentioning trucks, Jeeps, SUVs, and a new air intake system called NextGen. The system is said to provide increased horsepower, airflow, and torque. Naturally, this caught our attention. Here’s what we learned about K&N Engineering’s NextGen Cold Air Intakes, which the company claims are its most advanced intake systems to date.
What Are The Performance Gains?
Let’s start with the numbers. K&N says that the NextGen air intakes provide an average gain of 21 horsepower and 23 pound-feet of torque. But get this: some individual applications gained up to 41 horsepower and 67 pound-feet of torque. These numbers are proven because K&N notes that it is the only intake manufacturer that provides dyno results for every intake it manufactures.
All-New Hybrid Open-Top Design
The NextGen air intakes feature an all-new hybrid open-top design with an enlarged fresh air inlet, which optimizes airflow and lowers inlet temperatures. The result is smoother, more consistent airflow at higher volumes, increasing performance. Additionally, the NextGen air intakes are said to sport the largest, most advanced filter available for each application. Its redesigned radius entry, combined with its larger size, allows for more airflow while increasing particulate holding capacity. Furthermore, the NextGen air intake boasts an oversized intake tube, K&N’s largest diameter, to deliver increased air volume. The tube also features “velocity channels” that help smooth airflow.
OEM Look, Easy Installation
When K&N designed the NextGen air intake, the company made it a point to give it a sleek, OEM look. Additionally, the silicone hose lays flush with the intake tube, creating a clean aesthetic. To further enhance the intake, K&N included its iconic race stripes on the air filter.
The company claims that the NextGen air intakes install easily, thanks to Quick-Lock Technology. This includes a precision-engineered, tapered mounting bead interface on the air filter, which allows it to snap securely to the airbox without the need for mounting hardware.
Available Now With More Applications In May 2025
The K&N NextGen Cold Air Intakes are now available for Chevy, Ford, RAM, Jeep, and Toyota vehicles. In May 2025, the company will release additional vehicle applications. The MSRP for the NextGen air intakes begins at $399.99. For more information, visit the company’s website.
