A Unimog Honeymoon Suite Travels The World

Before taking the plunge, Jennifer and Peter Glas decided their honeymoon would be unforgettable. Based in Munich, Germany, the couple intended to travel the world behind the wheel of a 4×4. Both agreed “…it has to be a Unimog.” A 1986 Mercedes-Benz Unimog 1300L was chosen and immediately prepared.

The Unimog sports a custom-built body with approximately 75 square feet loaded with a full-sized double bed, double gas burner, fridge and freezer combo, kitchenette, toilet and much more. Solar panels up top keep a 12- and 24-volt electrical system charged and ready to use when parked at camp. Dual 37-gallon tanks keep the 5.7L Mercedes-Benz diesel fed as the rig travels through remote lands between towns and villages. A 48-gallon fresh water tank helps the occupants stay somewhat civilized with a sink and shower both running hot and cold water.

Dubbed “Glaarkshouse” (a combination of the couple’s surnames), this Unimog seems to be what exactly the pair wanted. A massively heavy duty and reliable rig. Since their launch in April, the Glaarkshouse have travelled through 14 countries and more than 9,000 miles. Early on during the trip, Jennifer and Peter stopped in Venice, Italy to say their vows to one another.

The trip has taken them through amazing experiences and gorgeous landscapes. Travelling through countries such as Greece, Turkey, the United Arab Emerites, Sri Lanka and India, while viewing these cultures from behind the wheel of a 4×4 icon. The Glaarkshouse even pulled some recovery duty while rolling through the deserts of Oman, where they helped haul a few stuck SUVs from the deep sands.

The Glaarkshouse isn’t stopping any time soon. Right now the home on wheels is traveling through India and heading toward Nepal, Tibet and China.
