Off-road fans, meet the SUV that wants to change the way you think about luxury in the dirt. INFINITI rolled into The Quail at Monterey Car Week with a concept that takes its all-new 2025 QX80 and dials the adventure factor way up. They call it the QX80 Terrain Spec, and it’s built to prove that you can have a go-anywhere overlander without giving up the comfort and sophistication that define INFINITI’s flagship.
According to David Woodhouse, vice president of Nissan Design America, the inspiration came from right outside their Southern California design studio, where mountain trails beg for exploration. “We wanted to unleash the full expressive power of INFINITI design with these QX80 concepts,” he said. “QX80 Terrain Spec was inspired by the diverse landscapes surrounding our Southern California design studio—where mountain trails invite adventure.”
From the first glance, the Terrain Spec feels ready to tackle the backcountry. It sits higher than the standard model, with beefy off-road wheels and all-terrain tires. Rugged fender flares give it a more purposeful stance, while limb risers stretch from the hood to the roof to keep branches out of the windshield. Up top, a roof-mounted lightbar waits for night runs, and a pop-up tent turns this luxury SUV into a basecamp in minutes. Satin dark basalt vinyl wraps the body in a finish that looks as good as it is durable.
Beneath all that, the Terrain Spec benefits from the same cutting-edge tech as the standard QX80. INFINITI’s Invisible Hood View can show what’s directly underneath the front end, which makes it perfect for spotting rocks or ruts that might otherwise catch you off guard. The 3D Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection offers a rotating, third-person look at your surroundings, making tight or technical maneuvers far less stressful. Together, they add a layer of confidence you don’t usually find in big luxury SUVs once the pavement ends.
The regular 2025 QX80 has already been racking up awards, including a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS, a spot in Popular Science’s Best of What’s New, and the title of Best-in-Class Premium SUV from the New England Motor Press Association. It’s also earned praise for its cabin, taking home Best New Interior and Best Interior Overall from the Texas Auto Writers Association.
The Terrain Spec made its debut alongside the QX65 Monograph concept, a sleek preview of what’s next in INFINITI’s lineup. If the QX80 Terrain Spec is any sign, the days of choosing between trail capability and plush comfort might be over for good.
