Just recently, the Lincoln Navigator went under the knife to receive a much needed update since it last changed in 2007. Come 2017, the Navigator is getting yet another redesign, which is expected to be revealed mid-2016.
SUV’s are heavy, and the Navigator is not light by any means. A diet has been put in place to help the Navi shed some weight, and one solution is adding an aluminum body. Doing away with the current chassis, the 2017 Navigator will be adopting the brand new 2015 Ford F-150 platform which uses heavy-duty steel. It’s the same body that allowed the new F-150 to shed 700 pounds from prior models. Similar numbers may ring true for the Navigator wearing new aluminum skin.
The main V8 powertrain will likely remain the same with the current 2015 model, but a hybrid is possible along with a V6 EcoBoost option. A possibility for shifting power could come in the shape of the 10-speed auto that is currently in the works by General Motors and Ford Motor Company.
Competing with other full-size high-end SUVs, the 2017 Lincoln will rival the Cadillac Escalade, Land Rover Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz GL-class, and a soon-to-be BMW X7. Hopefully updated technology will help the new Navi be a force to be reckoned with among the luxury SUV group.
While it is still too early to see what the new Navi might look like, according to MotorAuthority it’s possible that the Lincoln MKX concept may carry a few hints. Eventually, newer MXK, MKZ and MKS models will soon be introduced by Lincoln, so stay tuned for more upcoming Lincoln news.
