America likes to take a lot of the credit for winning World War II, and while it’s true that we helped hasten the end, we had plenty of help. Yet there is one contribution we made to the war effort that was undeniably great, so much so that even the Germans tried to capture and use as many as they could.
We’re talking about the original Jeep, that iconic war machine that has been morphed and molded by the automotive market into today’s Jeep Wrangler. But the company hasn’t forgotten its roots, launching the 2014 Jeep Wrangler Willys Wheeler Edition, a beefy off-road beast that is even more capable than its legendary scion.
Based on the Jeep Wrangler Sport model, the Willys Wheeler Edition gets additional off-road upgrades to ensure it can handle even the toughest terrain. At the back end is a Dana 44 differential with Trac-Loc limited slip and 3:73 gears, and the Willys Wheeler rides on BFGoodrich KM Mud Terrain LT255/75R17 tires.
Other four-wheeling hardware includes the Command-Trac part-time, two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio, and rock rails, to give the Jeep Wrangler Willys Wheeler Edition its improved off-road chops.
The Willys Wheeler Edition also includes a new Jeep Trail Rated Kit that includes a D-Ring, tow strap and gloves in a Jeep-branded bag. Unique high-gloss 17-inch wheels style up the exterior, along with a black gloss grille and blacked-out badges. The hood even includes “Willys” lettering, just so everyone knows what ride your Wrangler is paying tribute to. Pricing starts at $25,795 for the two-door model, and $29,595 for the four-door.
