We Took the $108K 2025 Ford F-250 Platinum Tremor Off-Road… Really

Ford takes its trucks seriously. And it shows as the F-Series has been the best-selling truck for more than four decades. It takes a lot to remain the best and Ford has never been known to rest on its laurels, at least when it comes to trucks. Ford already claims best-in-class towing, hauling, horsepower, and torque. Now it’s taking aim at most luxurious as well. To experience Ford’s most premium Super Duty to date, we picked up a 2025 F-250 Platinum Tremor with a sticker price of, get this, $108,770.

Base price for the 2025 F-250 Platinum is $77,865. However, this truck was optioned with the high-output 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel engine ($12,995), the Platinum Plus package ($6,500), Tremor package ($4,375), a retractable tonneau cover ($2,200), plus $2,840 of other options. Destination and delivery add another $1,995. Generously, there’s also a $570 credit for adding the Tremor and Trailer Tow packages. Yay?

So, is the truck worth the staggering price tag? Let’s dive in and find out.

What’s New For The 2025 Ford F-250 Super Duty?

In terms of upgrades 2025 wasn’t a banner year for Ford’s F-Series Super Duty. The last full-scale refresh came just two years ago for the 2023 model year. This is when the fourth generation of Ford’s Super Duty officially came to be and brought with it a host of improvements. These included two new engines (one gas and one diesel), updated technology, and a full styling refresh.

The biggest update for 2025 is the addition of the Platinum Plus package. This package is “intended to elevate the Super Duty experience with premium features.” And elevate it sure did.

What Exactly Is Ford’s Platinum Plus Package?

The Platinum Plus package is the upper echelon of comfort and style when it comes to Ford’s Super Duty pickups. Starting on the exterior, the package brings a unique satin finish grille with chrome inserts, satin chrome door handles, and a satin chrome tailgate applique. For those not also opting for the Tremor package, 20-inch bright with Dark Carbonized Gray high-gloss painted aluminum wheels are included.

An elevated interior experience begins with the Platinum Plus package’s unique Smoked Truffle interior. This includes premium Venetian leather seats with French stitching. The leather treatment extends to the door panels, grab handles, instrument panel, and console arm rest as well. The center console also receives a premium wood insert. Floor mats are upgraded as well to match the theme along with illuminated scuff plates. The company’s Max Recline massaging driver and front passenger seats are included. The package rounds out the hard parts with a twin-panel power moonroof, upfitter switches, and a 2kW Pro Power Onboard system.

Also included is what Ford calls the “Platinum Plus Experience.” This includes a premium maintenance plan that covers routine inspections, preventative care, and replacement of normal “wear and tear” items for the first two years or 25,000 miles. You also get a welcome call, welcome package and tribute item, and upgrade to your FordPass Rewards account, a 90-day accessory discount, and one-on-on texting with a Ford truck expert.

All of this comes at a price, however. The package itself cost $6,500. However, selecting this option requires potential buyers to also opt-in for the high-output Power Stroke diesel engine, which comes with a hefty $12,995 price tag. All-in, that’s $19,450 more than a base 2025 Ford F-250 or F-350 Platinum Super Duty with the 7.3-liter gas engine.

2025 Ford F-250 Platinum Tremor High-Output 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8

Ford’s high-output 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8 boasts a host of best-in-class figures. This engine produces 500 hp with a wild 1,200 lb-ft of torque. And in independent testing it’s been found that almost all that power makes it to the ground. Backing the engine is a TorqueShift 10R140 10-speed automatic transmission. This power helps enable the truck’s nearly 3,000-pound payload and 20,000-pound tow ratings.

All our testing was done unladen (a shame, we’re aware). However, had we chosen to push the limits Ford’s integrated digital on-board scales and smart hitch features would have helped us avoid an overloaded situation. Our test truck came fit with a 5th-wheel hitch prep package ($550) and a gooseneck hitch kit ($250).

With such a large amount of torque available one would surmise that driving the 2025 Ford Super Duty without a load would be a handful. Thankfully, that is not the case. Ford has done such an excellent job of integrating the engine’s throttle mapping with the transmission’s shift schedule that piloting the most powerful pickup on the market was as comfortable as driving a Ranger. Power delivery is linier without any alarming boost-related spikes, and we found the transmission shifting to be smooth and always on-point. With light throttle the truck was docile and easy to maneuver. However, when the need for speed arose tipping into the power resulted in steady freight-train-like acceleration. Passing and merging are a serious non-event. And apologies to the owner of the 2025 Ram 2500 that we left sitting at the stop light.

Super Duty Tremor Refresher

Ford’s ever growing Tremor line of off-road-capable vehicles now includes the Maverick, F-150, Explorer, Expedition, and Super Duty. While the hardware list for all Tremor models is impressive, it’s the largest among the class, the Super Duty Tremor, that comes loaded with the most standard and available off-road gear.

Available on XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trims, the Tremor package starts with unique front coil springs that provide 2 inches of additional height over the standard suspension. Off-road-tuned twin-tube dampers are included as well. The increased height provides the room necessary to fit the package’s 35-inch (285/75R18) Goodyear Duratrack all-terrain tires. An electronic locking rear differential (paired with 3.55:1 gears when fit with the Power Stroke diesel engine) and limited-slip front differential help transmit torque where it’s needed the most. Also included are aluminum off-road running boards fashioned off those found on the F-150 Raptor, steel skid plates on the transfercase and fuel tank, along with a shorter front air dam. Transfer case and axle vent tubes are also extended to account for increased water fording ability.

It’s not just hardware that makes the Tremor special. Super Duty trucks with the Tremor package receive a unique Rock Crawl drive mode along with Ford’s impressive Trail Control and Trail Turn Assist features.

Sadly, you can’t option the Tremor package on the F-450 Super Duty, any models with dual rear wheels, with an 8-foot bed, or with either the 6.8-liter gasoline V8 or standard-output 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8 engine. You also can’t get power deployable running boards, a rear anti-sway bar, or the company’s TorqueShift-G automatic transmission.

For 2025 the Tremor package is a $4,500 (Tremor added $4,375 out our Platinum tester, but pricing is always in flux) add-on for F-250 and F-350 Super Duty pickups.

2025 Ford F-250 Platinum Tremor: Immense Off-Road Capability

For a truck of its stature, we were genuinely impressed with how capable the 2025 Ford F-250 Super Duty Tremor is off-road. There’s hardly an obstacle that this truck can’t master, depending on your tolerance for body damage risk, anyway. Engage low-range and Rock Crawl mode and the truck simply idles along over any boulder in the way. The truck is comfortable on loose and rutted trails, makes easy work of graded dirt roads, and dispatches sandy hills with ease. Traction offered by the truck’s 35-inch tires, rear locking differential, and front limited-slip differential, combined with the immense torque, make this truck nearly unstoppable.

The truck’s only real Achilles Heel is its size. At more than 20 feet long it can be a bit much for tighter trails. Thankfully, Ford’s Trail Turn Assist is a miracle worker. Pressing the rotary drive mode switch engages Trail Turn Assist, which tightens the turning radius enough to make sharp turns by braking the inside rear wheel and pivoting the truck around it.

Trail Control is always a neat party trick. While we’re thankful for all the off-road drive modes we still find ourselves often picking our own combination of vehicle settings. We also appreciate that Ford has given the Super Duty an intuitive dash design, placing all the off-road controls in an easily accessible and logical location. The off-road information screens in the driver information screen and head-up display were the Chef’s Kiss.

For our time in the wild we did opt to air down the tires from their full street pressure to a modest 36 psi. This gave us a better footprint for increased traction and more sidewall flex mainly for comfort. The time spent removing and reinstalling the air was well worth it.

It’s Not All Sunshine And Puppies

Despite all the positives, we do have a few small gripes about the 2025 Ford F-250 Super Duty Tremor. We’d be remiss if we didn’t address the four-ton elephant in the room. At its core this is still a nearly 8,000-pound pickup that’s primarily built for towing and hauling. No amount of suspension magic is going to make it ride like a Raptor and thinking in such a way is just fooling yourself. That said, with a sticker price north of six figures we wouldn’t be mad if Ford increased the Tremor package cost and fit the truck with a set of Fox dampers like it did on the early Ranger Tremor models. The twin-tube shocks just aren’t enough.

We’d also like to have a quick chat with whomever made the decision of what skid plates to include and, more importantly, exclude. The transfer case skid plate is robust and offers great coverage. And we always appreciate a solid fuel tank skid plate. However, the most vulnerable parts of the undercarriage are still left unprotected. The engine’s oil pan, a fluid cooler and hoses, and the engine’s plastic oil pan are all out in the open. All it takes is one poorly placed rock to jump past the front axle to make for one very bad day.

Finally, there’s the tires. We love that the truck comes fit with 35-inch diameter rolling stock. This is a proper size for a truck of this stature. However, we have quite the love/hate relationship with Goodyear’s Duratrack all-terrain tire. Case-in-point, our test truck had just 6,000 miles on the odometer and all we could hear cruising down the highway was tire whine. We have never driven on a set of Duratrack tires that didn’t produce an audible level of noise that only gets louder as they age. On a truck that costs more than $100,000 we find this unacceptable considering there are plenty of options that are far quieter and still just as capable.

Final Thoughts

The bottom line is this: for those people with the biggest loads to haul and trailers to move, who desire the most premium of accoutrements, and occasionally do a bit of hard-core off-road driving, this is the truck for you. However, it comes with a hefty cost. For those looking to save some coin it pays to look at what is really need. Love off-roading but don’t tow often? Skip the nearly $13,000 Power Stroke option. Don’t need the Smoked Truffle luxury? Maybe pass on the Platinum Plus package. Just need a hard-working truck without the fluff? Maybe the Lariat trim is the right choice.

While it’s easy to get shocked by the big numbers, Ford has a truck for every person and every budget. And when it comes to heavy-duty luxury off-roaders, the 2025 Ford F-250 Platinum Tremor one is going to be very tough to beat.
