Wagoneer Is Dead: Long Live The 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

We can forgive you if you’ve been having a difficult time understanding Jeep’s Wagoneer recently. Jeep relaunched the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer nameplates in 2021 after a 30-year hiatus. Oh, but don’t call them “Jeeps” as the company intended to also market the Wagoneer brand as its new luxury vehicle arm. Sure, they were sold alongside Jeep vehicle at Jeep dealers and built at Jeep assembly plants, but these were different. Different how? Nobody really could explain. Both Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer came in Series I, II, and III trim levels and within these was serious overlap with a Wagoneer Series III being more well equipped and costlier than a Grand Wagoneer Series I. And don’t even get us started on the battery electric Wagoneer S. It was a mess.

Thankfully, for 2026 the leadership at Jeep has decided to straighten out this whole Wagoneer mess once and for all.

Grand Wagoneer: One Name To Rule Them All

The simplification strategy starts with naming and that means the death of Wagoneer. For 2026 all the brand’s big-bodied SUVs will fall under the Grand Wagoneer nameplate. Which we’ve argued should have been the case from the start. Also departing is the ambition of creating a separate Wagoneer sub-brand. Instead, the 2026 Grand Wagoneer will proudly wear the Jeep name.

Simplifying things even further, Jeep is eliminating the Series trims that no one seemed to understand. Trims will now be more uniform with those currently used across the Jeep brand including the base Grand Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer Limited, and Grand Wagoneer Summit. All will be available in an extended-length L model as well.

Several packages will be available as well, including the Limited Reserve appearance package, Summit Obsidian appearance package, Summit Reserve appearance package, and a new Upland off-road package.

2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Summit Reserve introduces a bold new interior color of Dark Ruby Red (late availability).

Updated Styling Both Inside And Out

It’s not just the naming that’s been updated; the 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer receives a redesigned front end and larger palette of colors to choose from. A new fascia brings a taller, squared-off stance, accentuated by a wide grille with illuminated seven-slot detailing and full-width LED lighting. From the T-shaped LEDs in the lower fascia to the matching horizontal taillamps, every inch is designed to convey capability and class.

New 18- to 22-inch wheel designs allow buyers to match their style, whether it be urban sophistication or trail toughness. Jeep also says it’s working to ditch chrome for good, a bold move that signals a shift toward sustainable, high-tech materials and a cleaner aesthetic.

Inside, Jeep continues to blur the line between off-road adventurer and luxury lounge. Base and Limited trims will feature premium leather interiors with rich contrast stitching and brushed metallic accents. The Upland package adds rugged personality and enhanced off-road readiness. While at the top Summit and Summit Reserve models transform the cabin into a sanctuary of open-pore wood, Palermo leather, copper stitching, and a suede headliner. Plus, these models also receive an immersive 23-speaker McIntosh audio system. Ventilated rear seating rounds out the package.

Range Extended Hybrid Grand Wagoneer Is Coming

We’ll get the sad news out of the way first: The Grand Wagoneer’s high-output 3.0-liter Hurricane I6 engine is no more. For 2026 the only gasoline engine option will be the 420 hp and 468 lb-ft standard-output 3.0-liter I6 previously found in the standard Wagoneer. We’re sure going to miss the high-output Hurricane’s 540 hp and 521 lb-ft.

The Hurricane won’t remain the sole engine option for long as late in the 2026 model year Jeep is expected to roll out the Grand Wagoneer REEV. This new powertrain is a groundbreaking range-extended hybrid-electric system. The REEV will combine a 92-kWh liquid-cooled battery pack and 130-kW onboard power unit with a (detuned) 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that serves as a power generator. The result will be 647 hp, 620 lb-ft of torque, and a 0 to 60 time of just 5.0 seconds. This will make it the quickest Grand Wagoneer ever.

With an estimated 150-mile range on battery alone and 500 miles of range when combined with the 20-gallon fuel tank, this plug-in hybrid setup should all but eliminate range anxiety.

A Better Pricing Structure

When the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer were launched in 2021 the company had ambitions of going toe-to-toe with the big players in the luxury full-size segment. And the vehicles were priced accordingly. Now, for 2026, Jeep is hitting reset with the Grand Wagoneer starting at just $64,740 (including the $2,595 destination and delivery charge). This will allow Jeep to compete with the more mainstream full-size SUVs such as a Chevy’s Tahoe, GMC’s Yukon, and Ford’s Expedition. On the highest end, the Grand Wagoneer Summit Obsidian will start at $98,985.
