The 2017 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series is in full swing with plenty of points up for grabs still. We heading up the road to check out last years ProLite champion Jerett Brooks’ shop and to see how the season is going.
This year Brooks is racing in the ProLite and Pro2 class and with two trucks it means twice the work. The season continues this weekend in Tooele, Utah at the Utah Motorsports Campus June 24-25. With 10 Rounds of racing left the 2017 points championship battle is far from over.
“I am feeling really good going into Utah,” Brooks said. “Utah has a tight track, and I am super into those types of tracks. I haven’t been to Utah in the Pro2, but am super pumped to get out there in the truck.”
The Pro2 is something new to the Brooks team this year. “It has been different this year driving the Pro2,” Brooks explained. “The ProLite is like a Go Kart, you can put it wherever you want on the track. In the Pro2 you have to through it into the corners like a sprint car and let it do what it wants to do.”
At the shop, both trucks had the bodies off of them as they finished up prepping them for Utah and going over them after racing at Estero Beach in Baja. Brooks told us that the Baja course is one of the roughest of the year and everything needs to be looked at after that race.
“The Mexico course is one of the hardest on the trucks,” Brooks said. “After that race the rearend, transmission, the whole front end, shocks, and coolers all come out. In addition, all the heims are replaced. There has been a lot of stress this month with a crazy prep like this and plenty of trips dropping parts off all over Southern California.”
Brooks with a bullseye on his back in ProLite being the reigning champ, but has shown that he is here to compete in that division. Brooks has been getting a lot of support from his sponsors: Bilstein, Rigid Industries, and General Tire.
