Whether you’ve gotten yourself into a dicey situation or you’re the one rescuing another from such a scenario, a winch that can get the job done is paramount to any offroad vehicle worth its weight. Superwinch, recognizing the need for powerful and durable winches for personal and commercial recovery vehicles, has launched a pair of new winches over the last year — the first aimed at the Jeep market, the EXP series, in 8,000, 10,000, and 12,000 pound capacities.
In addition to the existing EXP models, Superwinch launched at the show this week a beefier counterpart in 14,000, 16,000, and 18,000 pound capacity for large trucks and service vehicles.
According to Superwinch’s Jon Mason, the new unit features the same useful and modern electronic features of the original EXP, including a winch health status indicator for visual feedback, along with haptic (vibrations/motions recreating the sense of touch). The winches also have automatic clutch engagement, wherein you can place the clutch into free-spool, you rig the winch, tap the remote to drop it back in, and you’re automatically ready to start winching. “You don’t have to make a trip back to the winch — it’s very cool,” Mason shares.
Superwinch added lighting under the drum for nighttime use — also handy for guiding you to where your remote socket is. They’ve also added a fused auxiliary power port so you can tap into all the battery juice that’s the front of your bumper to power compressors, lights, or whatever you may choose. The EXP units can be optioned with wire rope or synthetic rope lines.
The EXP 8, 10, and 12 are available now, and the larger 14,16, and 18 models will be forthcoming in about 90 days.
