SEMA 2016: Rigid Industries’ Lighting Solutions For UTVs, Trucks

Lighting products in the off-road and truck market are a constant source of invention and innovation, and make up some of the most anticipated reveals here at the annual SEMA Show. Over at the Rigid Industries booth, there was a handful of new products to talk about, which we did with the help of Rigid’s John Roney.

“For the powersports market, we have the new Reflect mirror,” said Roney. “It’s a fully functioning mirror integrated with forward-projecting LEDs, as well as side-projecting LEDs that can be used as a side marker or turn signal.”

The Reflect uses a combination of a drive optic with a lenticular lens, offering good forward visibility with some light side visibility. It is expected to launch in early 2017.

Next, we got a look at the Chase light, winner of SEMA’s Best New Powersports Product. This is meant as a rear-facing light akin to a third brake light, and should prove useful for UTVs and sand rails.

“The Chase light can come in blue, amber, and red,” said Roney. “It has several features: a two-stage lighting halo that makes it useable as a brake light, a strobe function, a reverse light, and even a courtesy light that you could use as a license plate light.”

The final piece we covered was the new Adapt. Personalization made these light bars a real joy to see, as they could cycle through backlighting colors to match the owner’s tastes.

But that was second to the biggest feature of the Adapt: dual-purpose lighting. “You can switch between spot, flood, or combination pattern lighting in an instant,” said Roney. “We gave it a vehicle speed sensor too, so it can change the pattern automatically. Slower speeds will make the light use its flood pattern, while faster speeds will switch to spot pattern.”
