2025’s Off-Road Shakeup: Ineos Grenadier Challenges the Old Guard

The brainchild of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, founder and chairman of Ineos Group, the Ineos Grenadier and Quartermaster are tough, capable, and stylish vehicles with a clear nod to classic off-road vehicles, particularly the Land Rover Defender. Launched in Europe 2021 with availability in the United States in 2024, the Ineos brand has continued to garner attention from the off-road and overland crowd thanks to the company’s authentic approach, distinctive design, and exceptional build quality. With about 8,000 vehicles sold in the U.S. so far, it’s not surprising that were beginning to see them in greater numbers not just on the highways but the local trails as well.

Because of the vehicle’s slow roll out in 2024 we didn’t see very many modified examples on the show scene. That all changed for 2025. As the Overland Expo season kicked off in Southern California we noticed a stark shift. Jeep brand vehicles were no longer the stars. Toyota’s new Land Cruiser definitively holds the top spot for most popular vehicle of the show now. And, surprisingly, Ineos Grenadier slipped casually into second.

Highly Modified Ineos Grenadiers and Quartermasters

Everything Grenadier and Overland Garage 4×4 brough a trio of the most highly modified Ineos vehicles that we’ve seen yet to the Overland Expo SoCal show. The vehicles, two Grenadier and a Quartermaster, are built in very similar fashion. These builds included high-performance King off-road shocks along with new coil springs and heavy-duty control arms. Brakes are upgraded to six-piston Rotora HD calipers and slotted two-piece calipers. Tires are 35×11.5R17 Nitto Trail Grappler M/T mounted on Black Rhino wheels. All three are fit with a variety of upgraded bumpers, light bars, roof racks, tents, and accessories.

Rigs From Around The Show

The story continued as we walked the isles of the show. There were Grenadiers and Quartermasters of all shapes, colors, and sizes doting every corner. Most of the vehicles sported a small suspension lift and larger tires. Companies were displaying their newest Ineos parts, including bumpers, winches, lights, light bar, skid plates, roof racks, and so much more.

What Makes The Ineos Grenadier Special?

The Ineos Grenadier is a vehicle unlike any other. Unless you park it next to a Land Rover Defender and squint real hard. It’s powered by a BMW-sourced 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that produces 282 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle is full-time all-wheel drive and features a two-speed transfercase with low-range and a center locking differential. Front and rear electronic locking differentials are optional.

Aviation is a bit theme throughout the cabin. The center stack and roof-mounted auxiliary-switch panels mimic those found in modern jets. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. Along with advanced driver assistance features such as lane departure warning and automatic emergency braking. Plus, the Grenadier can warn drivers when they exceed the speed limit or appear drowsy.

The standard Ineos Grenadier Station Wagon starts at just $78,900 and can be had in either the standard trim, Trialmaster ($86,900) or Fieldmaster ($86,900). The Grenadier 1924 is an even more upfit special edition that comes with all the goodies and a $90,750 price tag. The Quartermaster pickup starts at $92,000 for all three trims. Both Grenadier and Quartermaster can be optioned above $110,000 without much effort.
