That thing got a Cummins? Why yes, it does. Naturally, that was the first question we had about the Storyteller Overland GXV Epic expedition truck. Okay, so maybe that wasn’t our first question. Just like you, we have a lot of questions and not nearly enough money. Built on a converted Kenworth K370 extended cab 4×4 chassis, the GXV Epic chugs along courtesy of a 6.7-liter Cummins (PACCAR PX-7) turbo diesel engine with 250 horsepower and 660 lb-ft of torque, backed by an Allison six-speed automatic. If you’ve always wanted a Cummins stuffed in an ultimate F-You vehicle, this might be a winner. Coming in at a discounted $800,000, however, you may need to sell your house and maybe your least favorite child. As for filling up the 200-gallon fuel tank—that’s a paycheck alone.

In reality, the Cummins diesel powerplant fades away into obscurity in light of the overall splendor of the Storyteller Overland GXV Epic. This 30-foot four-season diesel luxury adventure rig boasts some super-sized numbers: 44-inch tires (the fullsize spare has an electric winch system) surrounding aluminum forged wheels, 20,000-pound winch, 120-gallon fresh water tank, 40-gallon grey water tank, 18-kWh 24-volt Mastervolt Power System, 4,500-watt inverter, 1,980-watt solar panel roof, 6,000-watt Onan diesel generator, Aqua-Hot 65,600 BTU hydronic heat system, Truma Aventa 15,000 BTU air conditioning unit, and more.

No matter what kind of extreme weather the forecast holds, all is calm inside the fully insulated GXV thanks to its Armor Vision dual-pane glass windows (with bug screens and black-out shades) and vacuum-sealed 60-mm waterproof wall panels. It’s all protected by high-pressure spray-on ArmorThane coating. A cabin passthrough allows you to go from the Kenworth cab’s Scheel-Mann air ride seats to the living quarters without leaving the rig. The interior includes all the amenities you’d expect in a well-equipped home-on-wheels: Queen-size bed, front dinette that seats four and converts into a Full-size bed, kitchen with Corian solid surface countertops, bathroom, ample storage, dimmable and programmable lighting, and even a built-in washer/dryer combo. For entertainment, there’s a 32-inch Samsung TV with a Sonos sound bar.

We’re not sure how many GXV Epics we’ll be seeing in tight forests, but we envision plenty roaming the arid, open southwestern deserts. When it comes to capability, this Storyteller Overland 4×4 behemoth is certainly more sure-footed than not—although we seriously doubt anyone would want to test its full capabilities on purpose. Its exclusive GXV four-wheel-drive system features front and rear locking differentials, a high- and low-range transfer case, and a 50:1 crawl ratio.  King shocks soak up the terrain, as do squishy 44s, which can be inflated via on-board air with multiple access points. Quarter-inch steel bumper and grill guards, plenty of Diode Dynamics lighting, and a 20,000-pound winch give confidence when adventuring.
