Ford just unveiled what it claims to be the perfect off-roader. The new rugged concept is called the Ford Expedition Timberline Off-Grid concept, and the off-roader made its debut at the Overland Expo East show in Arrington, Virginia. Enthusiasts can also catch the concept at the 2021 SEMA Show starting Nov. 2.
Interestingly enough, the powertrain of the 2022 Ford Expedition has not been modified. The concept is propelled by a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 motor, which produces 380 HP and 470 lb-ft of torque. The SUV gets a 2-inch lift courtesy of the Fox Performance Elite Series 2.5-inch shocks with remote reservoirs in the front and rear.
Ford Expedition Timberline Off-Grid concept rides on a set of 17-inch Method Race Wheels that are wrapped in General Grabber 35-inch all-terrain rubber. External modifications for the off-roader include a custom CG Detroit topographic wrap for the bodywork, and a pair of LED light bars that are found below the grille and above the windshield.
The Ford Expedition Timberline concept gets a plethora of accessories, which Ford will offer through its dealerships. The accessories include a transmission shield, Thule Tepui Explorer rooftop tent, an Overland Vehicle Systems Nomadic 180-degree-pull-out awning, a Wild Land portable privacy shower, and much more. To enhance this SUV’s Overlanding capability, Ford also added interior sleeping accommodations.
These come in the form of a custom Luno camping mattress that fits inside EZ STAK aluminum storage drawers. Ford also added a Clarios AGM battery to supply the extra juice that these modifications require. The concept is paired with a Turtleback Expedition Series Trailer, which is the largest offering in the lineup.
