From overland-ready Toyotas to heavy-duty American trucks and trail-dominating Jeeps, the team at MPA Off-Road in Michigan specializes in turning capable factory rigs into purpose-built machines. Each project is tailored to how the owner plans to use their vehicle—whether that means extended backcountry travel, improved trail articulation, or stronger driveline components to handle bigger tires and tougher terrain. The following builds showcase a handful of recent projects that left the shop ready for serious trail time.
Overland Command Center: 2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro
MPA Off-Road transformed this 2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro into a capable overlanding platform built for extended backcountry travel. A Sherpa Equipment Co. “The Crestone” roof rack carries an iKamper BDV Duo rooftop tent, creating a comfortable basecamp wherever the trail ends. A Genisys dual-battery system keeps accessories powered, while Ironman 4×4 Raid heavy-duty side steps add durability and easier access. Diode Dynamics fog lights round out the build with improved visibility when weather or dust rolls in.
Trail Torque Upgrade: 2020 Jeep Gladiator
A 2020 Jeep Gladiator rolled into MPA Off-Road ready for more trail authority, and the Michigan shop delivered with a focused drivetrain and suspension upgrade. The axles were regeared front and rear with 5.13 Revolution gears and Timken bearings, restoring power and improving crawl capability for larger tires. A Clayton Off Road 3.5-inch Premium Lift Kit adds the stance and articulation needed to tackle tougher terrain while maintaining solid road manners between adventures.
Tacoma Trail Makeover: 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road
This 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road received a thoughtful combination of performance and styling upgrades at MPA Off-Road. An ARB snorkel prepares the truck for dusty trails and water crossings, while Freedom Offroad front upper control arms help maintain proper suspension geometry during hard use. Form Lighting headlights and taillights modernize visibility and appearance, and a TRD grille upgrade completes the Tacoma’s aggressive, trail-ready look.
OBS Trail Revival: 1997 Ford F-350 XL
MPA Off-Road took a classic 1997 Ford F-350 XL and elevated its capability with modern suspension engineering. A Carrick Customs front coilover conversion kit with King coilovers replaces the factory setup for improved ride and control, while the Carrick Customs long-travel rear leaf spring conversion enhances articulation. The axles were rebuilt and regeared with 4.56 Revolution gears and Timken bearings, and a custom-fit AntiRock sway bar improves stability. Amp Research electric steps were also integrated for easier entry into the lifted truck.
Desert-Proven Reinforcement: 2023 Jeep Gladiator Mojave
Built to push the limits of Jeep’s desert-ready platform, this 2023 Jeep Gladiator Mojave received a comprehensive upgrade at MPA Off-Road. The steering system was fortified with a Steer Smarts YETI XD full steering assembly, track bar, and sector shaft brace. A MetalCloak long-arm suspension improves articulation, while a Dynatrac ProRock 44 front axle with ELocker and 4.88 gears anchors the drivetrain. The factory rear axle was also regeared to 4.88 with Revolution gears, supported by Tom Woods driveshafts and Radflo 2.0 hydraulic front bump stops.
