“You can never over-communicate.” says Ritchie Lewis, Director of LOORRS

Ritchie Lewis, rookie Director of the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series (LOORRS) is happy with how the 2013 racing season went. As his first year with LOORRS, Lewis was put to many challenges.

Coming into the series, Lewis had to earn the respect of drivers, team members and officials alike. Using honesty and consistency, Lewis ensured that proper communication brought everyone together on the same page. “It always comes back to communication. That’s normally the key to everything,” Lewis said. “You can never over-communicate.”

lewis001“It gets a little tiresome when you’ve told the same story 10 times, but if it takes 12 times to get it through and get it to happen, and you get a win at the end of the day, then it’s worth those other two or three times.” Lewis continued, “The one guy or girl that doesn’t understand what your expectations are can mess it up for everybody else. That’s why we communicate, communicate, communicate.”

“All they want is that you just be fair and consistent,” Lewis said of the racers in reference to rules and changes. “We all have to officiate with integrity and decency and respect for the guy that pulls in with a little open trailer, as well as the guy that pulls in with 50 crew members and catering and all the bells and whistles. It still has to be the same.”

A solid and fair foundation has set Lewis and the entire LOORRS family up for big things. “I really want to thank all the officials” says Lewis. “I’m very, very proud of them.” Lewis now plans to allow the series to evolve using small tweaks along the way, working to fine tune and plan for the future of the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series.
