Bestop Supertop For Bronco: A Squareback Comeback

Part of the Bronco’s appeal has always been the promise that the roof is optional. Ford built the modern 4-door to shed its top, but for owners who want a soft top that folds completely out of the way without paying for a powered system, the choices have been thin. Bestop thinks it has the answer.

The company’s new Supertop for Bronco is a soft top for 2021-and-newer 4-door Broncos that is fully retractable and operated entirely by hand. It debuted this week in Las Vegas as part of the SEMA New Product Showcase, and to show what it looks like on a real build, Bestop fitted it to an Azure Gray Metallic 2023 Bronco Raptor built by Alex Jordy and loaded with parts from some of the off-road aftermarket’s best-known names.

A Familiar Name With A New Fitment

If the Supertop name rings a bell, it should. Bestop has used it for years on its Jeep tops, and it carries a reputation for simple, owner-friendly operation. Bringing it to the Bronco answers a request the company says it has been hearing loud and clear from owners.

“Bronco owners have been asking for a soft top that retracts and stows fully and is manually operated,” said Jake Taylor, Bestop’s Director of Brand Management. “The Supertop for Bronco is our response.”

Bestop describes it as one of the first fully convertible, manually operated squareback soft tops available in the Bronco aftermarket. Until now, Bronco owners shopping for a top that folds all the way back generally had to step up to a powered system, while manual options tended to stop short of full retraction. The Supertop splits the difference: no motors, no switches, no wiring, but the full topless experience when the weather cooperates.

A squareback keeps the roofline flat and upright all the way to the rear, echoing the boxy, utilitarian look that made the original Bronco an icon. It also preserves more usable headroom and cargo height behind the second row than a sloped design. On a vehicle that trades so heavily on heritage, that silhouette is a real selling point.

Four Ways To Ride

The Supertop’s party trick is flexibility. Owners can run it fully closed and secured, roll it partially back into Bestop’s Skyrider or Safari positions for a big dose of sky without committing to full exposure, or retract it completely. In the fully open position, the top stows in the cargo area, leaving the Bronco wide open from the windshield back.

Bestop designed the top around what Taylor calls “a simple, single-operator design,” meaning one person can work through every configuration without a second set of hands.

The windows are tinted and use Bestop’s removable Zip+Channel design, so owners can pull the side and rear glass for even more airflow without folding the whole top back. Fitment covers 2021-and-newer 4-door Broncos, including the 4-door Bronco Raptor, which is exactly what Bestop chose to demonstrate it on.

Filling The Gap In Bestop’s Bronco Lineup

The Supertop doesn’t replace anything in Bestop’s catalog. Instead, it slots between two existing Bronco tops. The Trektop offers slantback styling with manual operation and stows on its frame, while the eTop delivers full retractability with powered, push-button convenience at a premium price. The Supertop takes the manual operation of the former and the full retract-and-stow capability of the latter, then wraps them in that classic squareback shape.

Price is the other half of the story. Taylor pointed to a “more accessible price point” as a key goal, and the numbers back that up. The Supertop for Bronco will be offered in Black Diamond vinyl (part number 5473135) at $1,599.99 MSRP, or in Premium Black Twill fabric (part number 5473117) at $1,999.99 MSRP.

Preorders open through Bestop’s website following the SEMA unveiling. Shipping is planned for early 2027, which is why Bestop’s display labels it “New for 2027.” Product information and launch updates are available at bestop.com/stbronco.

The Raptor Wearing It

A new top is easier to appreciate on a truck you’d actually want to drive, and Bestop’s 2023 Bronco Raptor makes a strong case. Built by Alex Jordy and finished in factory Azure Gray Metallic, it keeps the Raptor’s desert-runner character and turns up the trail-readiness.

An Eibach Pro Lift Kit makes room for 38×13.50×17 Nitto Trail Grappler tires, a step up from the factory 37s, mounted on Raceline RT951 Ryno beadlock wheels whose gray rings tie neatly into the paint. Rock Slide Engineering step sliders guard the rockers and help passengers climb aboard.

Baja Designs supplied nearly all of the lighting. Up front, a 6XL Sport Linkable Bumper Kit, Squadron 2.0 Pro fog pocket lights, and an LP4 A-pillar kit on SDHQ mounts. Out back, S2 Pro chase lights on an SDHQ third brake light mount and an RTL-M tail light, plus white LED step lights. It all runs through an sPOD BantamX touchscreen. Inside, PRP custom seat covers and a Tuffy console safe, tailgate table, and cargo drawer finish the build, with MGP hitch covers adding a final detail.

Open Air, Minus The Motors

Show builds come and go, but the part Bestop really wants people to remember is the one overhead. The Supertop for Bronco gives 4-door owners something the aftermarket hasn’t offered much of: a squareback soft top that goes from fully enclosed to fully open without a motor, a second person, or an eTop-sized price tag. For Bronco owners who bought their trucks to feel the sun, that might be the most appealing upgrade in the booth.
