Jeep unveiled its Vacationeer concept during the 2024 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. It’s a fascinating vehicle that’s designed to explore the backcountry and even offer sleeping space. It’s loaded with mods including 35-inch tires, enlarged wheel wells, a winch, and additional lighting.
Vacationeer Is A Nostalgic Nod To Past Jeep Wagoneers
Jeep’s new Vacationeer concept is a nostalgic and clearly enthusiastic nod to the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models that were prevalent in the late 1960s through the early 1990s. The Vacationeer sort of reminded us of the Wagoneer Roadtrip concept that Jeep trotted out in 2018. However, Roadtrip was based on a 1965 Jeep Wagoneer. Its mod list included a stretched wheelbase, integrated rock rails, and a pair of locked Dana 44s. Additionally, it had a four-link suspension with coilovers, 33-inch BFGoodrich mud-terrain tires, and a 5.7L Hemi engine. The exterior color of Roadtrip is sort of similar to the “Spearminted” color on the new Vacationeer concept, and they both wear white wheels. Though the two SUVs share some basic similarities they each have their own vibe.
Based On The Wagoneer, Fitted With 35s, Larger Wheel Openings
The Vacationeer is based on the Grand Wagoneer SUV. Jeep notes that the concept is a premium SUV that merges comfort and adventure with modern capability. It also pays homage to the heritage of the Jeep brand. From its Spearminted exterior to its custom-trimmed and expanded interior space, it’s a looker. The JPP design team, with a nostalgic nod to classic Jeep fans, outfitted the Vacationeer concept with unique bodyside woodgrain graphics. The graphics are reminiscent of Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models from the late 1960s to the early 1990s. The Vacationeer concept is fitted with 35-inch BFGoodrich mud-terrain tires mounted to 18×9-inch Method Race Wheels 701 Bead Grip wheels. JPP says this gives the concept a natural 1.5-inch lift to improve its off-road capabilities. To create room for the larger tires, the wheel openings were enlarged. Custom bodyside flare extensions contribute to the Vacationeers unique look.
Skidplates, Warn Winch, LED Lighting
Under Vacationeer there are front and rear skidplates to help provide protection. In case the trail gets mega challenging there’s a front mounted Warn winch. The winch is mounted behind a custom front fascia that also holds several aftermarket LED lights. Moving upward, atop the white Rhino-lined roof, 11-inch TYRI LED lights illuminate the trail.
Custom Carbon-Fiber RedTail Overland Skyloft
Mounted on the roof of the Vacationeer concept is a custom carbon-fiber RedTail Overland Skyloft. It’s climate-controlled and boasts sleeping quarters for two individuals and includes windows. Atop the Skyloft are a trio of solar panels and they help feed the interior heat, air conditioning, and lighting. Jeep removed the stock second- and third-row seats to accommodate the integration of the Skyloft. To accommodate the integration of the Skyloft, the stock second- and third-row seats have been removed. To facilitate access between the interior floor and the Skyloft, a custom weatherproof pass-thru entrance has been installed. Additionally, a fore/aft sliding door and a small step, doubling as a handy table, simplify entry. At the rear, a bed-lined cargo floor provides durability, capable of withstanding outdoor elements such as sudden rain showers or the removal of muddy hiking gear.
New England-Inspired Front Seat Inserts
It’s worth noting that the Jeep brand collaborated with renowned fashion designer and devoted Wagoneer enthusiast/owner, Kiel James Patrick, for the creation of the front Tupelo leather seats. Hailing from New England, Patrick showcases his reverence for authentic Americana through custom fabric inserts. These inserts showcase classic Jeep vehicles within a New England-inspired pattern, adding a distinctive touch to the interior design. “For over three decades, the Jeep Wagoneer has been more than just a vehicle to me; it has literally been part of the fabric of my life threaded through my most cherished journeys,” said Patrick. “As a designer and lifelong Jeep 4×4 owner, this was a dream project. I could not be more excited to honor the heritage and stories of the Jeep brand.”
510 Horsepower And 500 Lb-Ft Of Torque
Powering the Jeep Vacationeer concept is the 3.0-liter Hurricane Twin Turbo 510 engine. This powerplant delivers 510 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. Jeep says the engine provides premium performance while also delivering improved fuel economy versus many competitors’ naturally aspirated V-8 and boosted six-cylinder engines.
Bottom Line
There’s a lot to like about the Jeep Vacationeer concept. It has ample power, the bits to get it to the backcountry and back, and comfortable sleeping quarters. It also looks pretty darn good.
