The Hoonigans Pit Toyota GR Supra vs Raptor R In A Drag Race

The Ford Raptor R is an amazing vehicle and does all thing exceptionally very well. That apparently includes drag racing as is demonstrated in Hoonigans’ latest “This vs That” video series. Accomplished off-road racer Christopher Polvoorde takes his nearly brand new 2023 Raptor R to drag race a Toyota GR Supra.

The challenge lays out three rounds of head-head drag racing in this odd match of car versus truck. Before the racing commences, both these flagship vehicles’ intricate components are introduced. Just a glimpse of the advantage from one ride over the other is revealed. As the Hoonigan Youtube video puts it in the description, it seems the Supra, a purpose-built lightweight sports car, might have an edge. “Nicho got the Gazoo Racing edition Toyota Supra, meaning it also has a smattering of BMW bits around its turbocharged i6 engine. But he’s up against Baja Champion Christopher Polvoorde’s new (but definitely dusty) Raptor R pickup! Unprepped asphalt is new to both of them, but can Nicho go pro??”

The cast of Hoonigans surveys each other to choose their winner. The more season gear heads choose the big heavy 700 horsepower truck. On the other side, the enthusiastic import fans are decidedly convinced their little Gazoo Racing Supra will take the stripe first.

Polvoorde, perhaps a little too comfortable with the high-performance super truck, gets dusted in the first round. From there, Christopher uses the Raptor R to his full advantage. A hefty 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine combined with the 10-speed automatic paddle-shifted transmission and trick driving modes turns this race into a no contest. The Raptor R churns up the asphalt and takes the next three rounds in a dominating show of brute power.

Coincidently, this is not the first time this Raptor R has won a drag racing contest. Back during King Of The Hammers, Optima Batteries hosted, just for fun, racing on the Soggy Dry Lake bed. An hodge-podge mix of Polaris Pro R, Rivian R1S EV, Ford F-150 Lighting EV, Volkswagon ID4 EV, 6100 Spec Trophy Truck, Ultra 4 4400, and of course the Raptor R. Would you be surprised if I told you the Raptor R cleaned up in this dirty duty drag race too?
