Ram Trucks has unveiled its all-new 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger and its specs are stunning. The truck is said to deliver 663 hp, 615 lb-ft of torque, a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds, and a payload of 2,625 pounds. Additionally, the Ramcharger has a 92 kWh battery pack, a targeted driving range of up to 690 miles, and a 0-60 mph time of only 4.4 seconds. But perhaps one of the truck’s most interesting features is that it has an internal combustion engine with no direct mechanical connection to the wheels.
How the Drive System Works
Here’s the basic layout: Under the hood is a 3.6-liter V-6 gasoline engine and it powers a 130 kW generator. Power from the generator charges the liquid-cooled 92 kWh battery pack. Power is sent to an axle-mounted 250 kWh front electric drive module (EDM) and a 238 kWh rear EDM. Here’s a deeper dig: The V-6 engine is adapted explicitly for powering the generator and it has specific packaging to make room for the front EDM. Furthermore, the generator is mounted directly to the engine. A power inverter module mounts on the vehicle and it connects to a junction box. Additionally, each EDM combines the motor, gearbox, and inverter. The front axle has an automatic wheel-end disconnect that allows the front wheels to spin freely in specific conditions, which maximizes efficiency. The second EDM is positioned on the rear axle and there’s an available electronic-locking rear differential.
Up to 145 KW Fast Charging
There are three ways to use the power produced by the generator. It can charge the battery when it is depleted or if the driver wants to preserve battery power. The generator’s electrical power can also be sent to the high-voltage bus, where the EDMs can use it along with the battery’s electrical power to provide maximum power to the wheels. The system also allows for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-home bi-directional charging. Additionally, the system can send power to a home or provide power at a campsite or jobsite. A power panel in the bed can send up to 7.2 kW of power. The truck’s battery is under the floor in the center of the truck. It can be recharged via external means and Ram says that DC fast charging at up to 145 kW can add 50 miles of range in about 10 minutes.
The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger Has Tech Galore
There are new buttons inside the Ramcharger that allow the driver to control certain functions related to the electric drivetrain. The e-shifter has buttons for eco mode, e-save, and electric+ modes. There’s also new regen buttons (normal and max regen with one-pedal driving). Additionally, the truck offers five driving modes. There’s Auto, Sport, Tow, Snow, and Off-Road. These drive modes control the drive system, accelerator response, regen level, suspension, and steering of the truck. For those planning to add accessories, the Ramcharger offers an accessory switch bank. When equipped with the 14.5-inch touchscreen, it uses buttons both on the bottom of the touchscreen and directly off screen below. But that’s not all. The truck’s touch screen displays pages of EV information. These include power flow, range impact, driving history, charge schedules, max battery level, and charging level.
Head Up Display and More
Head up display (HUD) is a great driving tool. The 2025 Ramcharger offers a full-color HUD that is configurable up to 10 inches. It features several types of information including Lane Departure, Lane Keep Assist, adaptive cruise control, turn-by-turn navigation, current speed, current gear, and speed limit. Drivers can personalize and save all HUD settings within their profiles. The truck offers a total of three screens, including a 10.25-inch passenger touchscreen. It’s only visible to the front passenger and it offers three major functions: co-pilot (navigation, device management), entertainment (via HDMI), and the ability to view the truck’s exterior cameras. The truck also includes a digital rearview mirror and digital key capability.
Air Suspension and Autonomous Drive Assist System
The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger is a body-on-frame truck that uses the STLA Frame platform. Engineers have designed this all-new, high-strength steel frame to be stiff, durable, and lightweight. The truck has a four-corner air suspension. It offers five modes: entry/exit, aero, normal, off-road 1 and off-road 2. Also, the truck has an Autonomous Drive Assist System. This includes Hands-free Highway Assist. Autonomous parallel and perpendicular parking assist is also available.
Fender-Mounted Charge Port and RamBox Functionality
The outside of the Ramcharger features a charge port located on the driver-side front quarter panel. The charge port has level 1 and level 2 AC charging on the top half and DC fast charging on the bottom half of the charger. To indicate the charging status, the Ram badge on the front grille pulsates when the truck is plugged in for charging. The truck also signals that it is plugged in and charging has begun by making audible sounds. Other exterior features include an all-new power tailgate and an EV-specific LED taillight design that spans onto the tailgate. Furthermore, the truck features the RamBox lockable bed storage. RamBox features a 115V outlet, drain plugs, lighting, and they’re weatherproof.
The Bottom Line
The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger breaks new ground in the electrified truck realm. It offers a wallop of horsepower and torque, bladder-stretching driving range, and LOL-inducing performance. But aside from all those things its still a truck that can do truck things. It can tow and haul an impressive amount of weight and we like that Ram incorporated the mega-functional RamBox. We’ll have more info on the Ramcharger as it becomes available.
