Off Road Xtreme recently reported on the new AEV Prospector XL Tray Bed Adventure Rig based on the Ram Truck. This week we are excited to share American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) newest heavy-duty creation, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 Bison. While the Prospector XL Tray Bed is presented in a very limited quantity, the HD ZR2 Bison has the mighty presence of General Motors and will be made available nationwide at participating dealers.
What is so special and unique about the HD ZR2 Bison? For starters, this truck receives all of the equipment from the Silverado HD ZR2 package and then gets further upgraded with even more enhanced off-road credentials and equipment. Keep in mind this is a heavy-duty purpose-built truck designed for hauling and towing. The HD ZR2 Bison is a package bundle that can be ordered with a 6.6 liter V8 Gas motor or Duramax 6.6L V-8 Turbo-Diesel.
2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 Bison Package:
- Exclusive gloss black, 18-inch AEV wheels
- Distinctive cut high-approach, stamped-steel front bumper with integrated recovery points and winch provisions
- Unique stamped-steel cut rear bumper with recovery points
- Tough, stamped steel underbody skid plates for the front of the vehicle, steering rack, exhaust, and transfer case
Bison models also receive unique exterior badging and other identifying cues, including the AEV logo on the front-seat head restraints.
Additionally, both the HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison benefit from the functional features shared across the Silverado HD range, including the DuraBed cargo box that optimizes every square inch for maximum cargo capacity, the corner step rear bumper, BedSteps, power tailgate, a 120-volt power outlet, available six-position Multi-Flex tailgate and more.
ZR2 Performance: Race-Proven Multimatic DSSV dampers
One of the big selling points of any ZR2 pickup truck is the integration of advanced Multimatic DSSV dampers. The Silverado HD ZR2 is no exception and receives racing-derived Multimatic spool-valve shocks. These high-performance shocks blend maximum off-road capability with on-road comfort while retaining the heavy-duty capabilities of towing and hauling.
The Multimatic DSSV dampers were pioneered on the Colorado ZR2 racing program and torture-tested with the help of Chad Hall Racing in the Best in The Desert off-road racing series. A unique spool-valve design, with three separate spools, offers unlimited tuning variability to control damping. That translates into more precise damping performance, for a greater feeling of control on and off the road.
American Expedition Vehicles Collaboration With Chevrolet Performance
The HD ZR2 Bison marks the third vehicle platform where they have collaborated with Chevrolet. It started with the Colorado ZR2 Bison, and then the Silverado 1500 ZR2 Bison followed. It was only natural to roll in the Silverado HD with a heavy-duty off-road ready AEV Bison package.
“AEV Partnering with Chevrolet and working together to bring this truck to market has been an amazing experience.” – Matt Feldermann
American Expedition Vehicles’ Marketing Manager, Matt Feldermann, shared with us the details of this new rig. “The Silverado HD ZR2 Bison is an exciting new option for full-size overland enthusiasts—two fantastic powertrains, 35-inch tires, Multimatic DSSV shock package, electronic rear locker, a winch-ready, stamped steel front bumper, robust underbody protection and a stamped steel rear bumper with integrated recovery points, this truck checks a lot of boxes. Not to mention, it looks really, really good.”
“The Silverado HD ZR2 Bison is fully tested in Moab, Glamis, Anza Borrego, and everywhere else we go to test the entire ZR2 family of pickup trucks,” says Tim Demetrio, engineering group manager at General Motors.
