Authentic USPS Right-Hand Drive Jeep Fully Built To Haul The Mail

What you are looking at here is a rig that started life as a 2006 TJ right-hand drive Jeep, and somehow managed to be massaged into something entirely different. A Jeep LJ that was destined to turn heads and traverse over any obstacle encountered. During the Cliff Hanger trail run with Rockstar Garage, we caught up with its female driver during our coverage of Easter Jeep Safari 2022.

As the story goes, Diana Adair’s husband bought the Jeep from a local mail carrier, with the full intention of flipping the thing for a quick buck. But the moment Diana cast eyes upon the oddball 4×4, she was infatuated with its quirkiness.

Since it had seen quite a bit of stop-and-go mail carrier action, the right-hand-drive vehicle did need some attention. Diana’s husband was flabbergasted when she showed so much interest in the postal delivery vehicle. She explained that her intentions were modest.

When I saw it, I decided I wanted it. I figured I could just put a small lift on it and drive around town… Just use it for my daily driver, and maybe off-road a little… Of course, the project became much more than that.

All it needed was an itsy-bitsy lift for weekend 4×4 adventures, and maybe a dash of fine-tuning and maintenance for around-town driving. Just your garden variety right-hand-drive daily beater disguised as a postal delivery vehicle. You know, just like any other commuter car on the road.

One Thing Leads To Another!

After recognizing that yes, she was indeed infatuated with the oddball Jeep, Diana’s husband did what any supportive husband in this sort of situation would do: He let her try it on for size.

Needless to say, the ensuing test drives merely solidified Diana’s adoration of the quirky 4×4. And just like that, the funky little TJ swerved into the Adair’s lives, unknowingly altering their destiny… forever.

Naturally, the project became far more complex once Diana’s husband, Bill, realized that the funky Jeep was there to stay. Owning B&R Performance certainly has its perks sometimes, which in this Jeep’s case, translated to a ton of wrench time.

Diana had driven and thoroughly enjoyed Bill’s most notable creation, One Bad Jeep LJ (@1_Bad_LJ). The decision was made to transform her little mail truck so that the two platforms could compete with one another. A “His & Hers” approach that could make for a fitting match to Bill’s insane LJ monster.

Construction Of The Right-Hand Drive Jeep

The use of a 2004 LJ tub and frame turned the stubby 2006 TJ chassis into a much longer rock crawler.

And so the enterprising couple set to sourcing an LJ tub and frame from a wrecked Jeep down in Tennessee. Donor chassis obtained, the Right-Hand Drive Jeep mail truck was severed in half. They then stitched it back together with the back half of the LJ serving as its fresh haunches. This modification stretched the Jeep to a point where it could reach a 110-wheel base. This modification allowed ample room for a load of additional upgrades.

For instance, there’s the 2005 Super Duty front axle with F-550 axle shafts, and a 14-bolt setup out back featuring Yukon Chromoly axle shafts. All of which are controlled via Yukon’s Grizzly Lockers that were loaded with Yukon 538 Gears on both ends.

Diana’s insistence on having manual lockouts is an intriguing touch. This upgrade eliminates the risk of an accidental shift in locker calibration.

Parts List On The Right-Hand Drive Jeep

There is also a custom driveshaft from DriveShafts Unlimited, a matching truss and High Steer Kit from Artec Industries, a Redneck Ram Hydraulic Steering Assist, and a 5.5-inch Trail Runner Lift from Rock Krawler. As for rubber and rollers, this rig rides atop 43-inch Mickey Thompson Baja Pro XS, which have been beadlocked to a set of custom powder-coated Dirty Life Mesa wheels.

Diana admits that the decision to roll with larger rubber this year has proven to be a wise move. Mickey Thompson Baja Pro XS tires and Dirty Life Mesa wheels are her winning combo of choice.

Externally, this Right-Hand Drive Jeep received a set of GenRight Front and Rear Bumpers, which were matched with the brand’s Highline Front Fenders, Corner Armor, and Sliders. When things go pear-shaped, Diana relies upon a winch from WARN Industries with a Factor 55 link setup to haul her right-hand-drive gem back to safety. Oh, and let’s not overlook that slick Poison Spider Cage, on-board Power Tank, and Scosche handles and mounts.

The engine mods on this LJ remain modest with a cold air intake and a custom Dynomax muffler being the extent of power adders on the 4.0-liter motor. Diana and Bill are contemplating swapping something more voracious with eight cylinders. Speaking of swapping parts. As the old saying goes, one is none and two is one. Two is always better and now the Adair’s can use one rig or the other as needed. This might be swapping parts or donating from one vehicle to another in case something breaks. Boom.
