Mickey Thompson’s Baja Legend MTZ Is Ready For Any Terrain

The tires we use on our builds are very important. First, the function of the tire is key. We want to make sure that the tires will handle anything we tackle. Whether that be deep into the woods, climbing steep, rocky terrain, or trying our luck in a mud hole, we need performance. Secondly, we want looks. A set of wheels and tires can make or break the look of a build.

Our friends over at Mickey Thompson have developed a tire that can, like all of their tires, do both. Introducing the Baja Legend MTZ. The Baja Legend MTZ is designed with proprietary compounds that deliver versatile mud terrain performance that provides superior traction on both on-road and off-road adventures.

The Baja Legend MTZs silica-reinforced tread compound results in improved wet performance, life longevity, and cut/chip resistance. Their trademarked Powerply 3-ply sidewall construction keeps the sides of the tires protected from sharp terrain and also improves response. On top of the 3-ply sidewall, the Four-Pitch Sidebiter pattern grips any terrain with excellent traction as well as more sidewall protection.

When you turn off the highway, the self-cleaning, high-void tread pattern and angled shoulder scallops work together to provide additional off-road traction. Other features include variable draft angles and stone ejectors to help reduce stone retention. After all, nobody likes when the tires hang on to rock and debris and inevitably toss them into our paint.

Does this work for your build? More than likely. The Baja Legend MTZ is offered in many different sizes that work on 15-inch wheels all the way up to a larger 20-inch wheel. Because the 35-inch tire is so popular, a few size highlights are the 35/12.50R15, 35/12.50R16, 35/12.50R17, 35/12.50R18, and the 35/12.50R20.

For those of you who are really wanting to go big, the MTZ tire is offered as big as a 40-inch by 14-inch tire with a 20-inch wheel. If you’re looking for the smallest size possible, size down to a 31-inch by 10.50-inch tire that fits a 15-inch wheel. We’re excited to get our hands on a set of these tires to see how they perform on all terrains.
