Torsus Praetorian is an Extreme Off-Road-Capable Bus

We here at Off Road Xtreme are big fans of giant off-road rigs. Back in May, we marveled at the off-road capability of Couch Off-road Engineering’s Mercedes Unimog 4X4 rig. Now, Czech outfit, Torsus has introduced a bus that can take on some of the best 4WD offerings in the market. The company’s latest product is called Torsus Praetorian and the prices of this giant off-roader start at around $190,000 or €168,000 (based on current exchange rates).

The company also offers a more capable People Transportation variant of the Praetorian which costs $205,000 (€181000). According to the company, Torsus Praetorian is the world’s toughest heavy-duty off-road vehicle. Both Praetorian variants are available in left-hand-drive as well as right-hand-drive setups. The company offers a Euro 6 compliant MAN diesel engine as standard in all Praetorian models.

The inline six-cylinder motor produces 290 HP of peak power and 848 lb-ft of maximum torque. Torsus offers a 9-speed manual gearbox as standard across all Praetorian variants, but customers can also opt for a 12-speed MAN Tipmatic automated gearbox option for an additional $4850. Torsus Praetorian rides on a leaf spring suspension setup and gets reinforced shock absorbers.

Praetorian reinforced running gear is ideal for an off-road rig of this size and its high center of gravity. The off-roader also gets reinforced stabilizers and stabilizers supports as standard for the front and rear axles. Furthermore, the rear axle gets stiffer air suspension. All Torsus Praetorians come equipped with front and rear locking axles from the factory.
