A Mercedes G-Wagen Restomod That Is A User-Friendly Off-Roader

Mercedes‘ world-renowned German engineering offers a strong foundation for off-road rigs. Last month, we reported on Couch Off-road Engineering’s Mercedes Unimog, which makes taking on the challenging terrains of Moab look like a walk in the park. Now, New Jersey-based Expedition Motor Company has introduced a modern reproduction of the Wolf G-Wagen.

Like Couch Off-road Engineering, the auto restoration outfit also specializes in modifying ex-military vehicles.
The company’s latest offering is this menacing off-roader which is based on a 1990 Mercedes 250GD. This also happens to be quite a user-friendly iteration of the Mercedes G-Wagen. The off-roader comes equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission, which is mated to a 2.5-liter five-cylinder diesel motor. The attention to detail throughout the build is sublime.

EMC G-Wagen Design Features:

  • Restomod process involves stripping the car down to its bare metal.
  • EMC’s 250GD gets a gorgeous Vesuvio Grey paint job.
  • Seats and door panels are wrapped in dark brown vinyl.

Expedition Motor Company’s Founder, Alex Levin shared his thoughts on the build and design of the off-roader, “Without a doubt, our new Vesuvio Grey Wolf presents something fresh for fans of the vintage Mercedes G-Wagen. Our newest build presents the cleanest application of an automatic transmission to the classic Wolf design ever completed.”

He further added, “Most of our clients tend to drive our manual Wolf trucks casually around town as well as use them for light trail running and beach combing. The new automatic series of Wolf models from Expedition Motor Company allows for more convenience driving our trucks in city and traffic conditions. The new automatic model also provides a great option for drivers not familiar with driving stick. We’re absolutely thrilled with how this new truck turned out.”

EMC G-Wagen Features:

  • The off-roader was designed to offer refined driving dynamics in the city.
  • Creature comforts like an HVAC system and an infotainment unit with USB and Bluetooth connectivity are included.
  • The car rides on modern suspension and brake setups.

According to Expedition Motor Company, the gearbox offered in the Mercedes G-Wagen 250GD is one of the quietest and smoothest applications of the unit. EMC Wolf is also available with a 4-speed manual gearbox as standard, but customers can upgrade to the automatic transmission for just $7500. It takes the team at EMC more than 1000 manhours to produce each Mercedes G-Wagen restomod, and prices for this special Mercedes 250GD off-roader start at $110,000.
