Video: Snow Cat Comes To The Rescue

Matt’s Off Road Recovery is always a great channel to check out off-roading misadventures on YouTube. One of their latest videos showcased a Snow Cat, a tank-treaded vehicle best equipped to handle – you guessed it – snow! Winter may be coming to an end here fairly soon, but snow is still treacherous terrain in states like Utah, which is where Matt usually operates.

The setup for the video is a Jeep Wrangler JK that got stuck up in some mountains. Matt is towing a Snow Cat behind his Super Duty, and the former will be the star of the show once the time comes to hoist the Jeep to freedom.

The thing that makes the Snow Cat so capable is its footwear – the tank treads. These treads displace a lot of the weight of the vehicle over a wide track, reducing ground pressure and giving it much more grip than it would with normal tires. It easily makes its way up the trail and finds the Jeep, whose tires helplessly spin in snow like this.

Matt hooks up the recovery rope to the hooks built into the Jeep’s bumper. The Snow Cat yanks the Jeep from the snow, and escorts the Jeep back down the mountain. Matt has to maneuver the Super Duty a little to get it and the Snow Cat out of the area, but it all ends well. It’s all in a day’s work for the guys at Matt’s Off Road Recovery!
