Can-Am is coming out swinging in 2021. Already, they’ve dominated the winner’s circle at the Can-Am King Of The Hammers race earlier this month, where all three top finishers drove Can-Am vehicles. Now, the manufacturer is coming out with a follow-up to the popular Commander, a versatile UTV that launched in 2010.
“The Commander has been a much-anticipated vehicle for an update,” said Matt Tandrup, Director of Design and Innovation at Can-Am. “It was something new to the market when it came out, and sold more than 100,000 vehicles since its debut. Now, the new Commander takes what people asked for in the next-gen version, and delivers on it.”

Catering to the sport-utility market segment, the Commander strikes a balance of work hard and play hard all in one package. One of its key features is the cargo/dump box behind the passenger seats, which carries over from the first-gen Commander. This new box offers 8.2 cubic feet of space, and has a weight capacity of 600 pounds. It has four anchor points to help secure cargo, and eight LinQ access points, which coincide with accessories like boxes, tire holders, and more.
The Commander will come out in three trim levels, including DPS, XT, and XT-P, all running on XPS tires exclusive to Can-Am. Two and four-door versions are available for the DPS and XT models, while XT-P is two-door only. DPS trim comes with standard features including a 4.5-inch digital display, DESS anti-theft system, 100hp Rotax engine, 12.5 inches of ground clearance, and CVT transmission. The DPS is the entry-level starter of the Commander line.

Upstream of the DPS, the XT and XT-P add some cool features. On the XT, these include a sport roof, LED signature headlights, a larger 7.6-inch digital display, 4,500-pound winch, and 13 inches of ground clearance. The XT-P is the premium package and makes the Commander an all-out performance machine. It features 13.5 inches of ground clearance, 14 inches of shock travel using Fox 2.5 Podium QS3 shocks, a Smart-Lok front differential, and 15-inch beadlock wheels.
