Awesome Sauce: Four-Wheel-Drive Off-Road Singer Porsche 911 Race Car

The new Singer Vehicle Design All-terrain Competition Study (ACS) four-wheel-drive off-road Porsche 911 seen here will make the company a household name in the off-road-racing world. During an exclusive interview with Off Road Xtreme, Mazen Fawaz, CEO of the Singer Group told us, “A long-term client approached us with the idea of restoring two of his air-cooled Porsche 911s. As motorsport geeks, cars like the 911 SC/RS and Dakar 959 are heroes to us. This checked all the boxes. I had raced a Trophy Truck as part of Jenson Button’s Rocket Motorsport, so desert racing had gotten under our skin.”

The Singer Vehicle Design All-terrain Competition Study (ACS) four-wheel-drive Porsche 911 could be a match for any off-road race car or truck.

Singer is the brainchild of car designer and ex-rock-and-roller Rob Dickinson. Singer has been crafting competition cars for years. This new project produced two phenomenal race cars. One was a Porsche 911 in Corsica Red for high-speed track events. The second was this mind-blowing off-road Porsche 911 in Singer’s iconic Parallax White for high-speed desert racing. It could give any off-road race car or truck a run for its money.

Singer worked with Richard Tuthill, whose race-prepped Porsche 911s have been winning off-road and on track for decades. The most recent was a victory in the 2019 East African Safari Classic – a remarkable fourth record for Tuthill in the grueling 5,000-kilometer event across Kenya and Tanzania. Tuthill also has experience in World Rally Championship (WRC) competition and events such Paris-Dakar. Fawaz told us, “Tuthill has been part of the Singer team that developed the driving characteristics for our Dynamics and Lightweighting Study. His company has links back to the original 911 SC/RS program – so it was a perfect fit to partner with him to bring that knowledge to this car.”

Singer’s ACS Porsche 911 off-road race car features 12 inches of ground clearance at ride height and takes advantage of up to 12 inches of suspension travel.

When asked about significant changes or alterations to turn it into a vehicle capable of handling the rigors of the off-road competition, Fawaz said, “It was extensive. The monocoque was significantly strengthened, and there’s an FIA-certified roll cage inside. These cars take a hammering in competition. Turbocharging and the torque it provides was useful for competition.”

The car also gained a full-time four-wheel-drive system, sequential racing transmission, and front, center, and rear limited-slip differentials. A custom suspension was created with twin competition-spec shock absorbers at each corner. The Singer ACS Porsche 911 off-road race car features 12 inches of ground clearance at ride height and takes advantage of up to 12 inches of suspension travel. Inside, there’s state-of-the-art GPS race navigation, FIA-certified seats, rehydration systems, and raised shifter and hydraulic handbrake.

A 450hp flat-six air-cooled engine with twin intercooled turbos powers this awesome four-wheel-drive off-road Porsche 911.

Fawaz told us, “Whatever was needed to equip this car with the capability to handle a range of terrain at high speed, we’ve done.” We don’t know about you, but we would love to buckle into this sweet high-performance off-road Porsche 911 race car and put it through its paces.
