With a new venue this year, Off Road Nights (ORN) took over the Southern California Fairgrounds in Perris, California. It was a day of fun featuring a great time for the whole family. This year’s ORN promised a bigger venue, with the same great format as past events. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights.
A wide array of vendors were on-hand for this years ORN. Wandering the display booths yielded opportunities to take a look at the latest offerings in lights, wheels, accessories and even badass trucks and UTVs. Top: Dirt Kings brought out a fleet of demo trucks to show off their products. What better way to engage the crowd than teach them how to weld? Bottom: In between car crushing demos, Black Series Trailers showed off their line of go-anywhere trailers. The Method Wheels tent was a crowd favorite with a full lineup of rims, demo vehicles and hot dogs.
One thing that has become a staple of ORN is entertainment. This year saw a live band performing all day, several FMX stunt shows, a car crush/crawler exhibition, and a pair of 1/3-scale monster trucks.
Up first in the line up was the crew from Fitz Army with a high-flying FMX demo. With huge names in the sport including multiple X-Game medal winners, it promised to be a crowd pleaser. As the bikes started up, everyone gathered from all over the event. After a few warm-up runs, we were all soon treated to an amazing aerial display of tricks.
As the bikes finished up, it was time for some Jeep crawling action. With no rocks available, 4 Wheel Parts brought in the next best thing for them to navigate over – a group of cars fresh out of the scrapyard! As the first Jeep approached the pile of steel, the spectators started to cheer.
By the time the pink-rimmed Wrangler reached the top of the heap, everyone was yelling and on their feet. Over the next 15 minutes, the trio took turns attacking the mountain of twisted steel from different angles, ensuring that no window or mirror was left unsmashed.
Who doesn't love a good old-fashioned car crush?
After all that destructive fun, it was time head back to the main area of the show and take a closer look at some of the vehicles I walked by before. There was no shortage of awesome builds throughout. With a range from near-stock trucks and UTVs to full-on race machines, there was something for everyone. Overall, ORN delivered as promised, a day of off-road-themed family fun in the Southern California sun. I look forward to next year, as the event gets settled into its new home and continues to grow.
