Chad Hall’s Chevy Colorado ZR2 Wins Class In Vegas To Reno

The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 improved its Vegas to Reno finish time by more than four hours from 2017 to 2018.

For the third consecutive year, Chad Hall is racing a Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 in the Best In The Desert (BITD) Vegas To Reno race and will continue on with the truck through the 2019 season in the stock 3700 class.

Chad Hall received one of the first Colorado ZR2s ever built in May 2017 and has been racing it since. The crew cab truck is powered by a 3.6L V6 backed by an eight speed automatic transmission. The truck was built with prototype suspension and driveline components that evolved into 15 factory race components now available to ZR2 customers. After the new products were launched, Hall’s truck was updated and is now racing on the same components.

The available race-tuned versions of the ZR2’s shocks provide 15-percent more travel up front and 10-percent in the rear. The Performance catalog also features a 1.5-inch Body Lift System, front and rear Jounce Shock System steel driveshaft and more.

The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 is competing in its third Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno race.

“In off-road racing, your speed comes from your suspension, not your engine. Usually, when you modify the suspension on a stock truck, the rest of the truck can’t keep up with it,” said Chad Hall. “However, the Colorado is such a great platform, everything seems to work at the same level. This is true even during off-road races, which are some of the most punishing miles you’ll ever put on a truck.”

With the popularity of the Colorado climbing and the popularity of previous ZR2 models, expect to see more of the new Colorado ZR2. The truck finished first in its class with a total time of 14:01:29.933.
