Every now and then we like to take a peak “under the skirt” of the advertising magic produced by the OEMs. In this case, we get a behind the scenes look at the making of the new GMC Chains commercial. We watched as the truck is hooked up to four winches (one on each corner) and the winches are then engaged to pull the truck apart, as if it was going to be “quartered”.
With each lift and pull, a shiver runs through our veins at the thought of possibly pulling this truck apart, but it never happens.
With each turn and tightening of the winch and chains the Sierra just moves to adjust and continues right on being strong. Then, we think about the magnitude of having to repeat this type of testing and strain on the truck more than 46 times over two very long days. GMC assures us that there are no camera tricks or stunt double trucks used in the making of this ad. GMC touts their dependability and strength and we think they make themselves clear.
It’s behind the scenes looks into the world of testing and filming these ads that let us know what the vehicles are really capable of and what the manufacturers go through to show us this. So, the question in our minds now is what other kind of behind the scenes testing takes place? We’ll have to look into that with all of the manufacturers and bring you more “sneak peaks” as they become available.
