Baja 1000: Carlos Apdaly Lopez Wins The 50th Baja 1000

[1]

The sun may have just been coming up on the Baja peninsula, but the RPM Offroad [2] team and driver Carlos Apdaly Lopez were hard at work all night long fighting the desert. A little after 6 am PST this morning he crossed the finish line as the first Trophy Truck and winner of the 2017 SCORE [3] Baja 1000.

Teams began battling what could be argued as the most difficult Baja 1000 course in years and with many lead changes the RPM no. 1 Trophy Truck finished first. Drivers like Rob MacCachren, the Tavo Vildosola and Andy McMillin combo, and BJ Baldwin all fell to motor or transmission failures, which allowed Lopez to charge towards the front.

In addition to winning the Baja 1000, it appears the Lopez has won the 2017 Trophy Truck class championship. Winning a race is such a competitive class is one thing, but a championship is something even more impressive.

Stay tuned for more from the Baja 1000 as well as closer look at the RPM Offroad team and their win at the Baja 1000.
