Off-Road Expo 2017: Sneak Peek At The All-New Yokohama X-MT Tire

[1]

We are on the eve of the 2017 Off-Road Expo [2], but that doesn’t mean the goodies haven’t started to pop up. We got the tip that something new would be at the Yokohama Tire [3] trailer this weekend and couldn’t wait until opening day to see it.

Be on the lookout for new products, like the Geolandar X-MT, while walking around the Off-Road Expo.

With their recent release of the Geolandar M/T G003 [5], which we tested in Colorado earlier this year, we heard rumors of something else coming down the pipeline. That tire was on display at the Off-Road Expo.

The Geolandar X-MT showcased a unique tread pattern and something different than what is traditionally seen.

Yokohama’s all-new Geolandar X-MT was wanting for the off-road world to see at the Expo September 30th to October 1st at the Fairplex in Pomona, California. Little information was given about the tire or tread compound, but that didn’t stop us from checking it out.

The Geolandar X-MT appears to be an extreme mud-terrain tire, hence the name. The large spaced out tread blocks and aggressive sidewall look to be able to grip on rocks.

The sidewall on the tire really caught our attention as it is the most aggressive sidewall we have seen in some time. The tread on the sidewall looks very impressive with multiple tread heights. With plenty of siping, the Goelandar X-MT appears it will handle wet terrain just fine.

From afar the sidewalls on the Geolandar X-MT caught our attention. The tooth-like tread appeared ready to take a bite out of any terrain.

With only being offered in 35 to 40-inch sized tires we can only imagine that this will be gracing the rocks during the 2018 King of the Hammers. This tire is definitely not for your average grocery getter.

We will have to stay tuned to see what Yokohama has in store for the tire and its official release date. Stay tuned for more from the 2017 Off-Road Expo.
