Here’s What Happens When You Gymkhana The Cam-Am X3

By now you’ve probably all heard of Ken Block and his Gymkhana YouTube videos [1]. His most recent videos include an AWD Ford Mustang and his Ford Fiesta rally car. Since his videos have exploded in popularity the Gymkhana grid racing series has emerged.

The Cam-Am Maverick X3 which can arguably the best UTV on the market right now, but what happens when you combine Gymkhana and a modified Maverick X3? The Hoonigans decided to find out in their latest video.

From the factory the Cam-Am Maverick X3 has 172 horsepower which plenty for desert driving. For street use, however, you may want a little bit more power. Luckily enough EVO Motorsports makes the “banana tune” which bumps power from 172 to 200. The next issue in trying to Gymkhana a Can-Am X3 is the off-road tires. The

The next issue in trying to Gymkhana a Can-Am X3 is the off-road tires. The Hoonigans replaced these with some super sticky Toyo [3] R888 tires wrapped around fifteen52 [4] Tarmac wheels. On top of all that power and grip is an S3 Power Sports Hoonigan hydraulic handbrake to help the car rotate on those tight turns.

Once the car was all setup the Hoonigans headed to an airport and setup a small Gymkhana track. The factory suspension has a ton of travel and that’s generally not what you want for a street setup. Ken Block, however, was able to use all that suspension travel and weight transfer to his advantage when throwing the Maverick X3 into a corner. When doing a back to back test with the R888 tires and the factory off-road tires the Hoonigans found the R888s was over 3 seconds faster.
