The Mint 400: Rob MacCachren Brings Home His First Win

Rob MacCachren has been racing for 30 years and has won everything imaginable in the sport. From multiple Baja 1000, short-course, and other desert racing wins he seemed to have it all except for one.

The Mint 400 [2] seemed as if it was MacCachren’s kryptonite as it was the one race that kept him off the top of the podium. That all changed at this year’s Mint 400 as he was able to bring home the win in the one race that has held him off.

Could life get any better? Rob MacCachren wins the 2017 Mint 400 after winning his third consecutive Baja 1000.

“It’s good to get this monkey off my back!” said an elated MacCachren, drenched in champagne on stage after crossing the finish line with an unofficial time of five hours, 37 minutes, 35 seconds after three laps of the 116-mile course outside Primm, Nevada.

Rob MacCachren stayed in the hunt all race long. When Andy McMillin got a flat tire on the final lap, MacCachren moved into the lead and never looked back.

Always the gentleman racer, MacCachren paid tribute to Casey Folks, Best in the Desert [6] founder, who passed away on January 12. He also credited his crew for helping deliver the win, thanked Mint 400 owners Matt and Josh Martelli, and the hundreds of volunteers and crew who make the race happen each year.

With this win under MacCachren’s belt is there anything that he can’t do now? Tell us in the comments below!
