For the last couple of years, the SCORE [2] Baja 1000 Experience takes over part of the outdoor activities at the SEMA Show. This allows people to get up close and personal with the high horsepower Trophy Trucks and for the first time this year, the Class 6100 trucks.
This year 26 Trophy trucks displayed along with eight Class 6100 trucks. In addition, the SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Experience even includes a ‘taste of Baja’ with the El Jimador Tequila Mike’s Sky Ranch Eat and Meet area. This part of the Experience has a building that represents the main entrance to the popular Mike’s Sky Ranch watering hole and resort located in central Baja California in the foothills of the San Pedro Martir mountains.
[3]The trucks on display gave fans an up close look at these 900 horsepower vehicles.
Tuesday evening also was the time for the trucks on display to qualify for the Baja 1000 happening just a few weeks after the end of the show. With qualifying taking place at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway the trucks departed the show and paraded on the road to the speedway. This along with the Mint 400 are the two times you can see Trophy Trucks on the road in Vegas.

Earlier in the day, the truck’s numbers were drawn at random to select a starting order with the 6100 trucks qualifying first. Each truck would take three laps around the short-course track for a total of 2.1 miles with the combined time of all three laps counting as their time.

The no. 244 truck piloted by Ryan Millen with Jason Montes navigating, qualified first in Class 6100. In the Trophy Truck class, Kyle LeDuc would be driving for Mark Post in the no. 3 Riviera Racing truck. Kyle was coming off winning the Pro4 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series [7] championship for the fourth year in a row.

Both of these trucks would be running the Baja 1000 with Terrible Herbst Motorsports. We will be following the team in Baja the week of the race. The rest of the time qualified sixth and seventh. Even with the top qualifying spots, the race is far from over. The clean air will help, but it will be a team effort to bring home the win for the 49th running of the Baja 1000.
